Georgina. As you know, Al was an incredible human being. Smart, funny, fisheries historian, raconteur and a builder of our Union. We did a lot of price negotiations together. He had respect on both sides of the table. His views and opinion were always rock solid and he represented the fish harvesters in a most professional manner on Provincial and National stages. Al always saw the big picture, never lost sight of the target and enhanced the image of harvesters at every turn. I have very fond memories of Al. He was my teacher and my friend. My sincerest condolences to you and your family

Corrina & McCarthy family, I want to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family as you make this very difficult journey today with your Dad. Corrina, your Dad has left you with a legacy of love and kindness to remember him as you carry him in your hearts always and forever. In the words of St. Augustine, "Love never ends when a loved one passes, it simply retires to another room in your heart. The link is not severed." Remember the many beautiful memories that had meaning and purpose in a life spent with your Dad. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your entire family today. Blessings, Nick J. Kelly

Our visits to our beloved Crabbes Beach has changed, forever. So often, over the years, we were lucky enough to be there when Al came ashore. Until I read your awesome tribute, I never knew the tremendous influence he had on our fishery, our culture, our community. Thank you for sharing him. Blessings to you all. Sandra

I spent a lot of time on Crabbes River Beach when I was young and that is when I met Al McCarthy. I looked forward to his arrival back at the wharf after a long day of fishing, and he always had a smile regardless of the daily catch. In later years I found out that Al was a musician and singer as well, and one song he sang was, "They're outport people," by Siminai, and he did an amazing job, and it fit his character so well. Al is telling fishing stories in Heaven now to those who have gone before him, and singing in the every increasing Heavenly Band. My most sincere condolences to the McCarthy family. May the support of family and community help you through this difficult loss. Retired Rev. Bill Matchem

Georgina and Girls, its been many years since I've seen Al or any of you, but the memories I have of our Summers growing up in Highlands are second to none. The time we spent at your home with Roxanne, Corrina & Alline (Angle was a little girl) were special and always lots of fun. Roxanne you were there for Mom when Dad passed (May 30, 2006) at the cabin and it is something I will always be greatful for. I'm sure both Dad and Al are together again catching up and telling stories. My sincere condolences to you all!
