Helen and The Vincent Family, We were saddened to hear of Wally's passing. My memories of Wally goes back to my first year teaching at Milley Primary and through Curling United Church. It continued through my teaching career when he worked with the school board. He was pleasant gentleman who always had time for a chat. I met Wally when I was 10 years old when his daughter Debbie met my brother Craig. So for 53 years the Vincents and Majors have formed a larger family. Wally always had a sparkle in his eye and a grin on his face. He had an easy way of listening and supporting. He helped my parents in their latter years. I think he had a special soft spot for Debbie as he would have coffee with her whenever possible just to chat and watch her bustle around her kitchen. This sweet, funny, smart, generous, wise man was our neighbour for 53 years. I could never list the countless things he did for our family over years, and will never forget the strength he provided when our Dad, Gerald McHugh passed, and the intense grief he shared with us when our dear brother Dave died in November. Mr. Vincent (Wally) and Dave were true friends, always planning their latest project, sharing jokes, and helping and supporting each other as only the best buddies can. They spent countless hours together. It is difficult to imagine that he is no longer physically present next door. Allen's Road will never be the same. He will live on in our hearts. To my family in Corner Brook, Although uncle Wally lived far away from us, I always felt he was always close by, especially when Dad was sick and we needed an ear. I recall a call during that time he called and I was having a bad moment and he said to me once “you’re at the bottom of the barrel now aren’t you my dear - don’t worry your dad will be fine, and he was. I felt better after talking to him. So true that you say that about him - he really was always just a phone call away. Kelli and I have looked up to you all our lives, and will keep you close in our hearts. Dad gets to have you near now, I’m sure you are laughing listening to his foolishness.
