I am so sad to learn of Lou’s passing. My father (Mike McNeil) was part of his wedding party and my mom and dad considered Lou and Elizabeth wonderful and dear friends. I visited with Lou and Elizabeth a couple of summers ago while I was vacationing in NL. I wasn’t sure he would remember me but he absolutely did. I had a wonderful visit with both of them. My deepest condolences to Elizabeth and Anne.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of my oldest longtime friends from the early days of retail on Broadway. I was just starting my career at Irving’s Men’s Wear. Mr Lou was so kind to me, helping me to understand the retail climate of the day. Affectionately called Lou the shoe. In later years I would look forward to seeing him and Elizabeth at McDonald’s every morning for coffee, when I was the manager of the CB Plaza. He was a true inspiration to me. RIP old friend.

A genuine Gentleman… that was Lou. Dad introduced us at a shoe show a long time ago. As well I had the privilege to sell Lou shoes on the road. He’s was always encouraging and this sure helped a young travelling sales man. My favourite memories of him was “breaking in” the young fella… his son in law. David you sure lucked out getting him for a FIL. And even better Ann for a bride. And to Elizabeth I am sure you hold nothing but pride and love for your husband of many years. I am sure you all have wonderful memories of Lou. Lizz and I send our heartfelt sympathy. Bruce and Lizz

When I was about 11 yrs old, my neighbors invited me to stay while their newlywed friends Lou and Betty (Mr. and Mrs. Alteen to me) visited and showed slides of their honeymoon trip to the Southern USA. Many adults would have sent home an intrusive youngster but my neighbors and their friends made me feel welcome. That memory has stayed with me and says everything about the warmth and kindness of both Lou and Betty. Sincere condolences to Betty and family on Lou's passing.

My Grandmother worked at National Shoes for years and Lou was a family friend that I remember way back as a little girl. One memory that sticks out is walking under the ladder nan was using to paint the house. I proceeded to get a paint shower when I accidentally knocked over the paint she had lodged on the ladder shelf. Lou popped by for a visit just in time to witness my mess! What a laugh he had! My condolences to the family, RIP Lou, thanks for being a good friend to my nan (Jessie Bailey).
