I met Mike while I was walking my cocker spaniel, Tucker, and he was walking Mitchie at Ottawa's Parkdale Market. We became fast friends and I so enjoyed sharing meals and drinks with him over the years. He was a kind man, a good man. He will be missed.

I had the privilege of meeting Mike before our time at ESDC, we met at a very challenging workplace that wasn't easy to be in. Yet even in that environment, Mike was a constant light. He greeted each day with a smile, an open heart, and brought light into every room he entered. Mike was always ready to listen, with genuine care, whether it was about work or life. I feel incredibly lucky to have known him, and forever grateful our paths crossed. My heartfelt condolences to you, his family- I know I will truly miss his kindness and hearing the joy in his chuckle.

Mike was one of the first people I met and worked closely with when I joined ESDC. We were on the same team and he mentored me through my early files and always gave me so much guidance and reassurance which was really important to me coming from a place I felt so lost in what I was doing. I remember him as a positive and sunny individual and I appreciated being able to learn from someone who truly put so much care into his work and his relationships with both clients and colleagues. Mike was so dearly appreciated and is greatly missed as a positive influence in my life.

Mike and I met in Ottawa about 15 years ago - we were on the same dragon boat team and had some amazing adventures together. But we really connected over our shared love of dogs and went on many walks through many trails with Mitch and my basset hound Spence before Mike moved to Toronto. I know that all those of us who knew him will miss him terribly. I'm so sorry for your loss.

To the Buckle family, Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how heavy this time must be, and I hope it brings even a small measure of comfort to know that the kindness and light Mike brought into the world will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. I had the privilege of working alongside Mike over the past year and feel truly grateful to have known such a remarkable person. Although we never met in person, I will always cherish our video calls — his quirky sense of humour, infectious laugh, warm smile, and the genuine joy and positivity he brought to every interaction. Losing someone so special is never easy, and I will always remember the comfort and kindness Mike showed me during a difficult time of my own. Mike spoke often of his family and shared how proud he was to be an uncle. It was clear how deeply he loved you. Please know that you are in my thoughts. I am sending you much love and strength as you navigate the time ahead.

Sandy, Gerry and family, I never got the chance to meet you however, I had the absolute privilege of working with your son, Mike, for a number of years at ESDC. We discovered we were both born on February 11th and immediately formed a bond, as well as our love of the Golden Girls. Mike was one of the most kind, thoughtful, intelligent and caring colleagues I have ever had. When I left ESDC, he would still send me messages and we stayed connected which always made me smile. I was thrilled to hear the news that he had returned home to Newfoundland to be closer to family and I am sure you cherish that time so much. There are simply no words I can offer you at this extremely difficult time to bring you comfort with such a significant loss. But please know that Mike and his beautiful smile has left a footprint on all of our hearts and memories which will live on. You were amazing parents to him and he turned out to be an absolutely incredible human. I have always said that God calls the angels on Earth early, even though it makes it all the harder to process his loss. I know he will be looking down on you and the family and still sending you signs that he is with you. I am sending you my deepest condolences and love from Halifax to all of you. I wish I could be at the service in person but I will be there in spirit and attend virtually. Hugs and prayers to all of you. Katie MacLean

From exchanging numbers in elementary school to try and convince our siblings to date, to ripping your pants in the library when we were getting books -to reconnecting through the Ambassadors contest in high school. From “spiked” Shirley temples, watching RENT on my tiny little TV to parties at Andrea’s and then to St. John’s. To every Friday night phone call when I was living in Halifax. Even my roommates would take calls Friday night, cause that’s when Babycakes would call. Mike was the best of the best. No matter how long we went between catch ups, it always felt like no time has passed. Mikes smile will forever be missed. Goodbye love. There’s no day but today.

His mischievous smile, his happy disposition, his manner of relating and his ability to elicit a hug rather than a scolding for some small mischief was huge. He was everyone’s lovable teddy bear. I’ve followed his many manoeuvres over the years as he made his way in the world and from what I’ve learned is that I was right. He was special!!! To say I am sorry to hear of his passing is an understatement. Dearest Sandy, Gerry & Eileen: On Easter Sunday some people went to their windows to see if the sunrise danced or attended mass, or said the Our Father, ten Hail Marys and a Glory Be, or watched the astronauts circle around the moon, but this Easter was different as our Lord Jesus Christ embraced Michael into his open arms and took him home to heaven where he was reunited with all his family members who went before him. This was truly a blessing reserved for special people of which Michael was. Our deepest sympathies to you, his sister & brother, his aunts & uncles and friends. Q: How would you describe Michael to someone who had never met them? A: Sweet Mike, that smile, the personality, the charm; they are all worth mentioning. My daughter, Chantal, always talked about you and your beautiful personality. You grew up together, and then attended Andrea and Dion’s wedding, after not seeing each other for a few years and it was just as though it was yesterday. I told Chantal so many times, during that trip to the Dominican, that she needed to find a man just like Mike. lol. Even this past January, when we went out to supper with Mike, while in St. John’s for appointments, I tormented him about how I always wanted them together. I joked, even the photographer in the Dominican, thought they were a couple because they were so close. He followed them around and kept taking their picture, telling them to kiss. They kept telling him, No! no!! We had so many laughs over this. But that is just how beautiful a personality Mike had. Everyone adored him! He was truly a sweetheart! He spoke about how happy he was to be home and close to his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He said he was excited about having a home and spending time with his friends. To Mike’s Mom and Dad, brother Brad, sister Kerry and all the family, please accept our sincere condolences. He will certainly be missed by so many. Sending you lots of love and prayers for the days ahead. Cherish all the wonderful memories of Mike and he will live on in your hearts forever. God Bless you all. We will never forget him.

The world became dimmer this week, because we lost this beautiful human- whose smile alone could light up the darkest spaces. Mike was was the guy you could talk to about anything- anytime, any-day, anywhere. He always listened with utter empathy & compassion- I swear it was his super power. Nothing was ever too much, & time didn’t mean anything- take as long as you needed- Mike “always had time!” A lifetime of memories- of foolishness, sleepovers, endless Dawson’s Creek reruns, competitive “you don’t know Jack!” Game nights, late night “jugg” conversations that ran into the morning, a few very impressive dance routines, cheese whiz bread at Nans, & an inner knowing that regardless of the time that had passed since we last spoke- we always had each others back- & always were just a message away. None of this makes sense- & I don’t think it ever will, how can it? To all you reading- I ask that you please: Hug the people you love for an extra 10 seconds. Never miss an opportunity to tell someone how much you appreciate them, & how grateful you are to have them in your life. Say I love you, over say it, & then say it again. Apologize if you screwed up. Make amends. Tell your people how you actually feel about them. Don’t wait for the right time, or lose yourself in second guessing, just say it- Because we actually don’t have “lots of time.” Things can change in a mere blink of an eye- So leave nothing left unsaid- & make sure your people know just how important they are to you. Mike, You’re so loved, & so missed- Until we see that beautiful smile again- Love you♥️

We are a very blessed group of 23 cousins on the Griffin side. So many of our childhood, and now adulthood, memories are intertwined. Quite possibly the one with the biggest heart has left us suddenly and we are heartbroken. Folks, tell people often how you feel about them while you have the chance. Michael radiated love and was never afraid to express it. We can all learn from that. Sending all my love to my beautiful godparents Sandy & Gerry, Brad, Andrea, Kerri, Trevor, Leah, Ryan, Sam, Olivia, Mya, & Lucas.

Michael, my brother from another mother. You were one of my best friends in high school and university, we were always there for each other. I was so excited to reconnect with you since you moved back, ready to pick right up where we left off. I am so happy I got to see you recently, with your huge smile and gigantic hug. I will always remember you and the laughs we shared. Love you, buddy. Michelle Corbett

To Mr & Mrs Buckle, Brad, Kerri & Family. I am absolutely heartbroken to hear of Mike's passing. To most, they are grieving the Amazing man that he grew up to be. His smile, humor and Heart. To me? I'm also grieving my entire childhood. From learning to ride bikes, climbing snowbanks , cheese whiz toast at his Nan's,picnics , every single Birthday party, power Rangers, coloring, ninja turtles, and singing away for half of Georgetown to hear from baby beluga to some song about sandwiches and so very many memories to list them all.We were the very best of friends and in practically every memory of myself and my brother growing up on the lane. Heaven has gained such a beautiful soul. Forever in my childhood heart. Hugs to you all and May he rest in peace. Love Andrea

Sweet Mike, that smile, the personality, the charm; they are all worth mentioning.
