It is with heavy heart's and sadness that the family of the late Doug Saunders announce his sudden and unexpected passing in Gull Island on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the age of 69 years.
Left to mourn are his life partner of 32 years Audrey; his Children: Valerie (Stephen), Douglas, and Laura (Ron); Grandchildren: Justin, Jonathan, Emma, and Mithos and, of course, his sidekick Squirt; His dearly loved Brothers and Sisters: Karl (Cec), Stanley (Reta), Sam (Ruth), Nina (Boyce), Marion, Clifford (Cindy), Bernard (Theresa), Curtis (Lisa), Sylvia (Muta), Priscilla, Mary, Leslie and Faith. In-laws: Loretta (Ken), Glenn (Phyllis), Gail, Gary (Grace) and Leon.
He was Uncle Doug to a large circle of nieces, nephews and close friends across his beloved land of Labrador and beyond.
Doug was predeceased by his Parents: Clifford and Mary Saunders; Parents in-law: Aubrey and Laura Stagg; Brother In-laws: Charles Bishop and Ralph Tooktoshina.
Doug touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature. A humble man, loved and admired by so many across the Globe. He was a true man of Labrador who loved, lived and thrived on life in the Big Land. His language of love was to provide, give and teach. He had compassion for all, helping and doing for others. A proud Father and Grandfather who lived for his family and will forever be loved, missed and in the hearts of so many.
Visitation services are scheduled for Monday, May 22, 2023, at Fillatre's Funeral Home, Happy Valley - Goose Bay, NL, from the hours of 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. for family and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. for the public.
A funeral service will be held at the United Church in Happy Valley - Goose Bay, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 starting at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Blackwood officiating. There will be a reception to follow the funeral service at the Royal Canadian Legion.
As expressions of sympathy, a donation to the family may be made in Doug’s memory.
