It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Veronica "Vonnie" Young of Barachois Brook, Newfoundland. 

Mary passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2024 after a brief illness. 

She was the daughter of the late Dora Young of Stephenville Crossing. Mary leaves behind her siblings Carol Ann (Andrew) Hickey of Flat Bay, Nancy Young of Saint John, New Brunswick and Joseph "Clarky" (Pauline) Young of Stephenville. She will also be missed by her Aunt Regina (Jean) Muise of Calgary, AB, her Uncle Roy (Angela) Young of Stephenville Crossing, Nieces; Trina Wells (Kelly) of Kingston, New Brunswick, Kimberley Bennett of Flat Bay, Serena Bennett (Glen Sharpe), Great Nephew Spencer and Great Niece Skyler Cormier, Sarah Babb (Paul) and Great Niece; Claire all of Stephenville.

In addition to many friends and neighbours, she will also be terribly missed by her fur babies Daisy and Whitey. 

Vonnie was pre-deceased by her husband Eugene Young, mother Dora Young, and her special friend Harvey Young.

Mary was a kind soul who loved her family dearly. If you were a friend, you were a friend for life. You could always count on her whether it was for a cup of coffee or a chat at her kitchen table. She enjoyed making memories with her family over holidays, birthday celebrations, shopping trips to the mall, drives in the car, an ice cream cone and more. Always one to make you laugh, you never knew what Mary was going to say. 

Our family would like to say a very special thank you to Dr. Qureshi of the ICU and the Medical and Surgical Staff of Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital. The compassion, knowledge and professionalism shown to Mary and our family was greatly appreciated. We would also like to acknowledge the messages, phone calls, and visits we received while in hospital.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will take place on Thurs., Sept. 5, 2024 between 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West St., Stephenville Crossing from where the Memorial service will take place on Fri., Sept. 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.  As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to a Charity of Ones’ choice.

A family graveside service will be planned at a later date.
