A Lover of Arts, Forever in Our Hearts

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sandra Lorraine Cantwell announces her passing at Pleasantview Towers in St. John’s, NL on January 22, 2025.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Angela Cantwell (nee McCarthy) of Corner Brook, Sandra leaves to mourn — with fond memories — her son Byron Montgomerie (Laurie), and grandson Finn (Phineas), as well as six remaining siblings: Maria Dicks (the late Vincent Dicks), Kevin Cantwell (the late Brenda [Park] Cantwell), Reginald Cantwell (Nora), Ursula Anstey (David), Sylvia Hiscock (Lindy), Elizabeth Cantwell (Bruce Taylor), and her aunt Myrtle McCarthy of Corner Brook, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sandra was predeceased by her sister Ellen, and brothers Joseph and Thomas, as well as three infant siblings.

Sandra was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, and was a gentle, loving, and caring person for all her life. An artistic soul, she loved writing poetry, music, and found joy in multiple instruments including violin, mandolin, and piano. She filled sketchbooks with her words and imagery, and enjoyed drawing Newfoundland wildlife.

We, the family, would like to share our gratitude with our nephew and son, Regi, and his wife Judy for the love and kindness they shared with Sandra, as well as the care provided by the staff and healthcare professionals at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and Pleasantview Towers.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in her name. Cremation has taken place at Barrett's Funeral Home in St. John's, and a celebration of Sandra‘s full and beautiful life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 with a visitation from 12-2:00 p.m. at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
