Obituary of Denise Bruce
Denise Bruce
April 15, 1948 – January 22, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Denise Bruce announces her sudden passing on January 22nd, 2025, at the age of 76 in her home on Allens Road. Denise is now welcomed back to the loving embrace of her predeceased parents Din and Camille. Left to mourn and to celebrate Denise’s life are her siblings Sheila, David (Marilyn), Leo (Deb), Anne (Bruce) and Dennis (Sandra). Denise was blessed throughout her life with the great friendship of Sister Patricia March whom the Bruce’s consider as part of the family. Without a doubt, the pride and joy of Denise’s life were her many nephews, nieces and their children and that love was thoroughly reciprocated. Her home is alive with pictures of these special people, and she was always quick to share the latest pictures or the exploits of her family to anyone she encountered.
In her career, Denise was an English teacher at Holy Heart of Mary in St. John’s and she loved working with the staff there and her many students. After retirement from teaching, Denise moved back to Corner Brook to be with her family and worked for many years in customer service at Sears. Denise loved engaging with people and her careers in teaching and in customer service gave her great joy in that capacity.
Denise loved gardening and, in the summer, she spent many an hour tending to her beautiful gardens. Like her parents, Denise was an avid cribbage player and loved the opportunity to play a game, especially with her nephews and nieces. She loved a good yarn and having a good laugh. Denise was kind, generous and was always available to assist anyone that needed help. Her memory will live on through all that had the pleasure of meeting her.
A visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Curling on Monday, January 27th from 7 PM to 9 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Curling on Tuesday, January 28th at 1030 AM. The family will host a gathering at the Bruce family home at 11 Allens Road right after the funeral mass; all are welcome to attend.
With Denise’s love of gardening, gifts of flowers are welcomed. As an alternative, given Denise’ generous and caring nature, donations to the food bank would be appreciated.
