Obituary of Marie Philomena Kennedy
Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with broken hearts and a deep sense of loss that the Kennedy family announces the passing of their beloved matriarch, Marie Philomena Kennedy, on January 24, 2025 at the distinguished age of 90.
A devout Catholic who was always so generous with her time, she was a true caregiver who spent the majority of her life raising her nieces and nephews. She also volunteered at Immaculate Heart of Mary School since it’s opening in 1999. Marie loved attending family gatherings and mass, and was always game for a round of 120’s. Marie also had a green thumb and loved her garden; she had flowers in and outside her home. Her favorite flower was geraniums, and she had them blooming all year round.
Marie was the glue that held the Kennedy family together. She was often referred to as St. Marie for her unwavering kindness, love, and compassion for anyone and everyone that had the privilege to be in her presence. Her passing has left a void in the Kennedy family that can never be filled, and a home that will always be hers.
Forever mourning her loss are sisters Marjorie Deckert and Joan Kennedy. Brothers Joseph and Tony (Dianne). Sister in-law Barb. Many nieces and nephews, especially those whom she raised as her own. Marie also held her great nieces and nephews close to her heart.
Marie was predeceased by parents Bernard and Jane Kennedy, and two infant siblings. Brothers Ned, Cyril, Jim, and Dennis. Sister Marion. Nieces Heidi, Nicole, Angie, Geraldine, and nephews John Kennedy and John Kennedy Miles.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marie’s memory to the Immaculate Heart of Mary School Bursary Fund.
In keeping with Marie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass is to be held on Friday, Jan 31, 2025 at All Hallows Parish on Humber Road at 10:00am. Reception to follow for family and friends at 21 Cobb Lane from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.
Aunt Ree, we love you more than words, and will hold your memory near and dear always.
The family would also like to send out a special thank you to Father Edward Terry, Dr. Nicola Penney, and the Palliative Care Team for their kindness, compassion, and support during this difficult time.
