MICHAEL LLEWELLYN HOUNSELL
1975 - 2024

Sandra and Llew Hounsell wish to pass along the heartbreaking news about the death of their son, Michael Llewellyn, on Vancouver Island. Apart from his parents, Michael leaves to mourn his brother Daniel, sister Adrienne (Gerald) Fillatre, niece Morgan and nephew Nate, uncles Bill Pafford and Paul (Mona) Pafford, aunts Sheila Wooley, Sharon Clements as well as  many cousins and people who met and knew Mike during his passage through this life. He was predeceased by his grandparents: Miriam and Llewellyn Hounsell; Sarah and Harold Pafford.

Michael was a traveler. Most years he travelled for six months – mainly in India and South East Asia. He financed his travels through the sweat of his brow by planting trees throughout British Columbia and Alberta as well as by picking and selling pine cones, morel mushrooms and wild berries.

Michael earned an honours degree from McGill University in Montreal. During the decades since his graduation, he has continued to be a learner and seeker of truth. Michael read voraciously (both fiction and non-fiction) in all the genres, by authors  ancient and modern - on topics ranging from the secular to the spiritual.

Michael was a devotee of yoga and meditation which he practiced faithfully upon rising each morning.

During the twenty five years Michael lived in British Columbia, he explored, hiked and climbed a vast area of that province. He especially loved Vancouver Island. On one occasion he spoke about standing high on a mountain top and watching the eagles as they soared beneath him.

Michael will be forever loved and forever missed.

A memorial service will be held at All Saints’ Church on Clarence Street on  Thursday, February 20 at 2 pm – Rev Canon Tanya White officiating.

If you wish, you can make a donation in Michael’s memory to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
