Obituary of Lena White Bolt
LENA WHITE BOLT
(Nee Brake)
MEADOWS, NL
July 17, 1933 - March 3, 2025
God has welcomed another angel to Heaven. It is with deepest sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late Lena Bolt announce her sudden passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, March 3rd, 2025 in her 91st year.
She will be sadly missed by her devoted daughter, Judy(Roger Wight), and the light of her life, her precious granddaughter, Emily (Alexander). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mollie Snow, and many nieces, nephews, and special friends, Maxine House and Mercedes Brake.
Lena was predeceased by her husband Freeman (2009), parents, Thomas and Isabella Brake, her dear sister, Ethel Blanchard (Arthur), her dear brothers, Chesley (Sylvia) and Harvey (Inez), her parents in laws, John Henry and Ethel Bolt, and brother and sister-in-laws, Charlie, Frank, Clarence, Maisie and Jessie.
Mom was the last surviving child of Thomas and Isabella Brake. She grew up on Meadows Point and opened her first little convenience store in the back of her parents’ house. A few years later she opened a convenience store on what is now called Mountainview Road. From 1964 to mid 1970’s, Mom and Dad owned and operated Bolt’s Chain Saw Ltd in Deer Lake.
Those who knew her, knew she loved her garden and was very proud of her flowers. She would always say to anyone who visited, “Come look at my flowers!”.
Mom was a very strong, fiercely independent lady and never shied away from expressing what she thought. She was a well-known wealth of history about the people of Meadows and surrounding areas. She was loved and respected by everyone that had the pleasure to know and to love her - and we loved her so deeply.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 5 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Meadows with the funeral service to take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday officiated by Rev. Madonna Boone and Rev. George Critchell. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
As expression of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Memorial Fund.
We would like to thank Dr. Armstrong and the staff at the Emergency Department of Western Memorial Regional Hospital, as well as Meadows Fire Department First Responders, Colin Tucker and Mike Huxter, for your care and compassion.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.
To quote one of her favorite songs:
“Storms never last, do they baby,
Bad times all pass with the wind
Your hand in mine stills the thunder,
And you make the sun want to shine”
