Israel was a very passionate person who believed for fighting for the common good of people. He served as president of local 64 where he fought diligently for his members. One of his achievements was benefits for causal workers. He was on a committee to advocate for seniors. He lobbied for 10 years to get our first long term care home. In 2008 he helped turn the sod with Danny Williams for the new hospital which he and his committee had worked so hard for. He also lobbied to get a radiation unit and pet scanner in the new hospital. He was a member of the pension committee for retirees with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper. He was recently the recipient of the Newfoundland and Labrador Confederation 75th Anniversary medal and he was also the recipient of The Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.
Israel loved to travel, and he and his wife Hazel had many adventures together. He was an avid sports fisherman and hunter and was most happy in the outdoors with either a fishing rod or rifle in his hand.
We wish to thank the Doctors and Nurses from the Emergency Department, 5A and a special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses from 4A. We will never forget your kindness and care for our brother in his last days. We would also like to thank management and staff from Westmount Estates, the place that our brother called home.
Following Israels wishes, cremation has taken place. No flowers by request, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Fillatres Funeral Home in Curling, from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date this summer in Lark Harbour
