Martha Jones

November 6, 1925 - March 13, 2025

Let me live in the house by the side of the road and be a friend to man. - Sam Walter Foss

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved mother, Martha Jones (Letto), on March 13, 2025, at the Long Term Care Facility in Forteau.Leaving to mourn are sons, Grenfell (Beatrice), Sammy, Harvey (Genevieve), Ralph (Sharon), and daughter Jean (John); Grandchildren, Sean (Chonttelle), Brent (Renée), Dion (Andrea), Gordon, Carola, Candice (Tristan), Jacob, Emily (Keegan), Sarah (James), and Joshua; Great-grandchildren, Dominic, Kyle, Katie, Nikita, Casey, Ashika, Dylan, Devine, Ellie, Brea, and Jireh; and the Flynn families.

Predeceased by husband Gordon in 1976; daughter Judy; son-in-law Harry; brothers, Aurthur, Ronald, Albert Peter, Benjamin, George, and Steadman; sisters, Hercilia, Rose, Jessie, and Evelyn; grandchildren, Kimberly, Bradley, Dwayne, and Sophie.

Mom lived a life of compassion, strength and determination, and was known for her feisty, fiery spirit. She believed in hard work and being of service to others. Her work ethic and perseverance throughout the many difficulties in her life were an inspiration. She thoroughly enjoyed working on the wharf with her husband, picking berries and tending her large family garden. She grieved the loss of these activities when she was no longer able to keep it up. Her legacy will live on through the many quilts and knitted items she created. Mom’s hands were always busy and she liked nothing better than to see others do the same. Mom’s door was always open to company and she was never happier than when she had visitors. Special friends included Myrtle Jones, Marilyn Dumaresque, Alma Goudie (deceased), Lynn Morgan (New York) and long-time family friend Chesley Letto.

We so appreciate all those who ran errands for Mom or brought her a fish from the wharf, the staff at RSK who were so patient with her. We all know Mom liked nothing better than to see everyone busy.

Special thanks to the staff at the Long Term Care Centre in Forteau. You can never overestimate the enjoyment you added to her days. Your patience and many kindnesses will never be forgotten.
