Obituary of House, Vincent C. House
Charles House
Vincent Charles House (Charlie House) passed away peacefully at Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls - Windsor, surrounded by his loving family, on December 19th, 2024. He was 83 years of age.He was predeceased by his father Leonard House, mother Ellie (Abbott) House, wife Mary (Besso) House, brother David Peter and daughter Betty House.
Left to mourn are his daughter Helena Crant (Gene) of Grand Falls-Windsor and son Rob (Lucy) of Terrace, BC. Also leaving to mourn are his beloved grandchildren Stephen Crant (Samantha) and Adam Crant (Tia), sister in law and brother in law Loretta and Michael Maloney of Holyrood and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Charlie was born in Aguathuna, Port au Port but moved to Stephenville Crossing at a young age. He was a student at St. FX in Antigonish for several years. Charlie worked on the Ernest Harmon Air Force base and Westland Motors with his Father. Charlie later opened his own business in Stephenville Crossing from which he retired some 46 years later. While the sign read Westland Hardware, It was locally known as “Charlie House’s”. Dad told the local newspaper he had 4,000 items there and knew where they all were. Many a customer will no doubt smile at that. Charlie married the love of his life Mary Besso in 1965. With Mary passing at a young age, Charlie was left with a young family to raise, he managed to be the strength and calm for all. Charlie enjoyed playing baseball and hockey in his early years, and then Recreational ball later in life, he was still playing into his 70’s. Charlie loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, berry picking, taking Sunday family excursions, with many trips to Port au Port and Black Bank.
As most Grandparents do, he loved to share the same things with his grand kids, teaching them to shoot, enjoying the outdoors with them and taking in their baseball and hockey games at any opportunity. He provided us with the most wonderful jams and delighted us all with the traditional moose pies for Christmas Eve. In his senior years Charlie was frequently heard saying “There’s nothing the same in this world anymore”. Dad, we hope you find everything you have been missing in the next. We trust you will soar high over your beloved West Coast on your way home, and pray you feel the love we have for you lifting you to the love that surely awaits.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff from Golden Years Estates, Central Health emergency and 4A, and finally the Lionel Kelland Hospice – a gift beyond measure. You are all very special people and your work is invaluable. Heartfelt thanks as well to friends and family for the prayers, well wishes and support during this difficult time. There are always angels among us.
