Obituary of Mary Rosanna House

April 12, 1927 - March 14, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Mary Rosanna House (nee Ralph) of Port Saunders on March 14, 2025 at the Rufus Guinchard Health Care Centre, age 97 years.

Mary was predeceased by her husband John House, her parents George and Phoebe Ralph, sisters:  Marie, Ula; brothers:  Harold, Francis and Richard.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories her children:  Selwyn (Marisa), Gracie (Tom), John (Ivy); Grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy:  Adrian (Sasha), James H., Aaron (Leslie), Byron (Shelley), Abby, Michael, James M., Willow and William.

Mary was a devoted mother, a cherished grandmother / great - grandmother, community historian and a pillar of strength to all who knew her.  She spent most of her life in Port Saunders, creating a home filled with warmth and endless support.  In early years she fulfilled the role as a school teacher, where she displayed guidance  through the lessons she taught. She worked for many years at the local post office, always giving back to the community. Mary loved her family, Sunday dinners and having friends over for tea.  Her favorite pastime was the love of quilting.  She spent hours and hours making quilts and giving them away to those special people in her life.  Mary never missed a quilting retreat, where she formed lifelong friendships and memories.  She  was a woman with a strong steadfast commitment to her faith and church. She was a lifelong member of the Port Saunders ACW where she was known for her compassion, unwavering faith and kindness.

Though we grieve her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace. 'Don't cry because it is over, smile because it was.'

Funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at The St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Port Saunders @ 2pm.  The Reverend Marie Smith officiating.  Interment to follow at The Sandy Cove Interfaith Cemetery,  Port Saunders, NL
