It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Mary Sooley announce her passing at Western Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 at the age of 87 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her son Harold Byrne (Donna), daughter Kathleen Butt (Doug); stepchildren Brian Sooley (Cindy), Judy Sooley (James), Debbie Hampton (Terry); grandson Michael Byrne (Chante); step grandchildren, Wendy, Alan, Karen, Nancy, Kimberley, Matthew, Frank, Chantel, Cullan, Stephen, Katie and Kody; one great granddaughter, Maisie, 19 step great grandchildren; brothers: Patrick Byrne, Frank Byrne (Mona); sister Cecelia Byrne (James); sister-in-law Peggy Byrne, brothers-in-law Boyd (Ethel) Sooley and Hector (Vera) Sooley; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Wendell Sooley, brother Tony Byrne, parents James and Elizabeth Byrne, brothers and sisters-in-law Stella and Cyril Humber, Fred and Susie Sooley, parents-in-law Fred and Florence Sooley.
Mary lived a full and joyful life. She worked her entire working career at Woolworths. She eventually met and married the love of her life, Wendell. Together they created a wonderful blended family. Mary was a woman of great faith. She devoted much of her life to volunteer work and spent countless hours serving her church community. Her generosity and kind deeds were evident in her everyday life. She leaves behind a legacy of a well-lived life and a family whom she adored. She will be missed but we taken comfort knowing she is at peace in heaven.
The family would like to Thank the wonderful staff at the Lohnes Complex, where Mary resided as well to the caring Doctors and Nursed on Palliative Care.
Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Monday, March 17th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 18th at 10:30 AM from Sacred Heart Parish with Fr. Lee Lainey officiating. Cremation will follow.
As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sacred Heart Parish or Our Lady Star of the Sea.
