Genevieve was born on the East End of Woods Island on January 26th, 1935. It was also on the East End of the Island that she married her first love, James (Jim) Connolly on October 16, 1954, with whom she shared four children and started their life in their two-story home with a small, attached convenience store. In 1960, then widowed after just five short years, Genevieve along with her young family resettled in Benoit’s Cove and on April 21, 1963 she married George Greene with whom she shared four more children.
Genevieve was a gentle soul who loved everyone and whose love was reciprocated by many. She had an infectious smile that would warm your heart. She lived a very full life with a strong faith loving her children dearly. She was more than our mother she was also our trusted friend and our biggest fan. Mom was a kind, humble person who loved to sing and dance and dearly loved her bingo and a good game of cards. Whenever she met up with someone from Woods Island, you would be sure to be entertained by stories of what Mom always referred to as “the good old days”, where she was born and raised, and where she would always say “we never had a lot, but were so happy” During her time on Woods Island she made friendships that lasted a lifetime.
The family would like to thank all the staff at North Care Station, Gooseberry North at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Centre for the exceptional care that was provide to our mom, during her last eight years.
Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Curling on Thursday, March 27th, 2025 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A private family service will be scheduled at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish.
