Richard Francis Hinks

St. George’s, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Richard Francis Hinks announce his sudden passing on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in his 93rd year.
He was predeceased by his wife Regina (Gallant); his parents James and Julia Hinks; his brothers: Ambrose, Joseph, Patrick Hinks, Alexander Hinks and his second family Nickolas and Anastasia Flynn.
Dad’s mother passed away at an early age and Dad was taken into the family of Nickolas and Anastasia Flynn of West Bay. He formed a strong bond with the family especially with Joyce Kim (Flynn) whom he also considered his sister.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Terry (Linda), Robert (Lorraine), Daniel (Marcia), Brendan (Kelly), Karen, Colleen, Gregory (Paula), his 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren whom he cared for so deeply.
His first position at Harmon Air Force Base was maintenance. He then went on to secure a position as a firefighter. During his early years he also served as a volunteer firefighter in the town of St. George’s. In 1965, dad went to Goose Air Force Base and in 1966 his family joined him in Goose Bay. With the closure of the Air Force Bas In 1973 dad and the family moved back to the Town of St. George’s where he again became active with the St. George’s Fire Department. He also worked with Flinkote, various jobs with the Town of St. George’s.
You would always find dad out tinkering in the garage, fixing something, working in the yard. He never stopped and always had his next project planned out. Three days before he passed, he was out starting the lawn mower getting it ready for the detailed yard work that he had planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Parish, St. George’s or the St. George’s Fire Department.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Dr. Hough, Dr. Qureshi, nurses Karen in Emergency and Eunice in ICU, for their care and support. A heartfelt thank you to the numerous extended family and friends for their ongoing kindness, support and prayers over the years. We are very fortunate to belong to such a caring community.
