Card of Thanks

The family of the late Monty McAuley would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who supported us during this most difficult time.

To our families, the McAuleys, and the Brakes, friends, and neighbors who visited, brought food, sent cards, made donations in Monty’s memory, and shared cherished stories of days gone by—your kindness and compassion have meant more than words can say. The outpouring of love and support helped us through the hardest days that followed his passing.

We extend our sincere thanks to the following:

First responders—the HIS Fire Department, the paramedics of WMRH, the RNC, who came to our home and provided guidance and comfort when we needed it most, your professionalism and kindness was outstanding.

To many of our family members and close friends who came to our home to offer support on the day of Monty’s passing, to Veronica Gale and Dean Gosse who graciously stepped in, helping to handle important logistics to relieve the immediate family from having to do so, we are so appreciative. We are forever grateful to all who came to comfort and support us that day.

To Rev. Terry Loder, who was a friend of Monty’s, thank you for the lovely funeral and internment services, your compassion and professionalism brought a great deal of comfort to the family.

To Rev. Greg Loder who assisted with the Funeral Service, Monty’s daughter:  Vanessa McAuley, who shared many stories as she delivered a beautiful Eulogy. Monty’s sister: Willie Loder who played the organ, the Urn Bearers, Monty’s brother: Dean, and son:  Donald, the Pallbearers: Alexander McAuley, Neville Brake, Chase Caravan, Dale Wheeler, Chase Murrin, Michael McAuley, Bryan McAuley, and Albert McAuley, Soloist: Brian Terry who sang “Salt Water Joys”, Jenelle McAuley who read messages from family and friends who were unable to attend the service, the readers:  Graham Ellsworth, Carol Anstey, Chase Caravan, Veronica Gale, and the readers at the internment: Alexander, Bryan, and Vanessa McAuley, and Chase Caravan who provided his accordion rendition of “Salt Water Joys” to close out the internment ceremony, your participation added so much to make for unforgettable services .

To Steve Caravan for honoring Monty’s wish by playing “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf, as the congregation disbursed following the funeral, we are grateful to you for fulfilling Monty’s wish.

To the HIS Fire Dept Firefighters who provided traffic control at the funeral,  to the HIS Firettes, who joined the Fire Fighters as they formed the honor guard at the church,  and at the stairs leading to Monty’s home following his final ride in the Fire Truck from the church to his home in Summerside to await final internment, which took place on Nov 22, 2025, your presence comforted us incredibly.

To the members of the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Women’s Group, thank you for hosting the sharing of food and memories at a reception that was held in the church basement for family and friends following the funeral, your kindness will always be remembered.

To Florence Kelly, Glen Ford, and the many wonderful staff of Fillatre’s Funeral Home, we are profoundly grateful for your professionalism, understanding, and guidance during the most difficult days of our lives.

To the members of the Bethany Cemetery Committee in Summerside, your help with the selection of Monty’s final resting place has brought us much comfort.

To work colleagues of Monty, Vanessa, and Donald from NL Schools, and Janet’s work colleagues from Qalipu First Nation, your generosity, care, and support will never be forgotten.

"The warmth of your presence and the comfort of your words have offered solace beyond measure."

The family of the late Monty McAuley announce his peaceful passing at his beloved home in Summerside on March 22, 2025. While we are saddened by our loss, we are incredibly grateful for his life, his love, his loyalty, and his humour.

Leaving to mourn with beautiful memories, his wife of 51 years: Janet, son: Donald (Catherine), daughter: Vanessa (Dean), grandchildren: Alexander, Chase M., Bryan, Chase C., and Nathan, brother: Dean McAuley (Peggy), sisters: Willie Loder (Alan), Rosalind Wheeler (Sherman), Pauline McAuley, Laura Ellsworth (Derek), brothers-in-law: Richard Brake (Sarah), Roger Brake, Kirk Brake (Marina), Andy Brake (Roseann), Neville Brake (Terri), sisters-in-law: Pamela Brake, and Sherry Brake, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who were very special to him.

He was predeceased by his parents: Donald and Olive McAuley, parents-in-law: Richard and Ann Brake, baby brother: Wilfred, and special cousin: Paul McAuley.

Monty had a way about him that drew people to him. Many co-workers and friends will remember him fondly. A carpenter by trade, he worked with the NL School District for over 40 years—first as a summer job, then as a maintenance carpenter, and finally as the maintenance foreman. He was so proud that both of his children followed him to work at NL Schools. He loved his job and retired only this past fall at 72 years old.

Monty was even more proud of his work in the community through his leadership with the HIS Fire Department where he served passionately for 25 years.

The greatest pride of his, however, was his wife: Janet, daughter: Vanessa, son: Donald, and his 5 grandchildren. Family was everything to him. He loved and protected them fiercely.

Monty had many interests and pastimes. He relished time spent on the beach behind his home in Summerside, and in the community’s woods: trapping, rabbit catching, and cutting wood. Having his brother Dean close by in Summerside to chat and spend time with made him content. Bonne Bay Pond was a second home where his parents nourished his love of gardening and the outdoors. During his golden years, he went back to his passion for motorcycling. He was always open to learning new things and acquiring new skills. He embraced life and the people around him.

At Monty’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will occur on Wednesday, March 26th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerside. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 27th, 2:00 at the same location, with Monty’s friend, Reverend Terry Loder officiating. We invite you to join in the sharing of food and happy memories at the church basement after the service. Interment to take place at a later date.

Donations in Monty’s memory can be made to the HIS Fire Rescue, 187 Main Street, Irishtown-Summerside, NL A2H 4A1 or e-transfer chiefparsons@hotmail.com (in message section please write "In Memory of Monty McAuley").

…If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,

Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch

If my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief…
