Obituary of Monty Eugene McAuley
The family of the late Monty McAuley announce his peaceful passing at his beloved home in Summerside on March 22, 2025. While we are saddened by our loss, we are incredibly grateful for his life, his love, his loyalty, and his humour.
Leaving to mourn with beautiful memories, his wife of 51 years: Janet, son: Donald (Catherine), daughter: Vanessa (Dean), grandchildren: Alexander, Chase M., Bryan, Chase C., and Nathan, brother: Dean McAuley (Peggy), sisters: Willie Loder (Alan), Rosalind Wheeler (Sherman), Pauline McAuley, Laura Ellsworth (Derek), brothers-in-law: Richard Brake (Sarah), Roger Brake, Kirk Brake (Marina), Andy Brake (Roseann), Neville Brake (Terri), sisters-in-law: Pamela Brake, and Sherry Brake, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who were very special to him.
He was predeceased by his parents: Donald and Olive McAuley, parents-in-law: Richard and Ann Brake, baby brother: Wilfred, and special cousin: Paul McAuley.
Monty had a way about him that drew people to him. Many co-workers and friends will remember him fondly. A carpenter by trade, he worked with the NL School District for over 40 years—first as a summer job, then as a maintenance carpenter, and finally as the maintenance foreman. He was so proud that both of his children followed him to work at NL Schools. He loved his job and retired only this past fall at 72 years old.
Monty was even more proud of his work in the community through his leadership with the HIS Fire Department where he served passionately for 25 years.
The greatest pride of his, however, was his wife: Janet, daughter: Vanessa, son: Donald, and his 5 grandchildren. Family was everything to him. He loved and protected them fiercely.
Monty had many interests and pastimes. He relished time spent on the beach behind his home in Summerside, and in the community’s woods: trapping, rabbit catching, and cutting wood. Having his brother Dean close by in Summerside to chat and spend time with made him content. Bonne Bay Pond was a second home where his parents nourished his love of gardening and the outdoors. During his golden years, he went back to his passion for motorcycling. He was always open to learning new things and acquiring new skills. He embraced life and the people around him.
At Monty’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will occur on Wednesday, March 26th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerside. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 27th, 2:00 at the same location, with Monty’s friend, Reverend Terry Loder officiating. We invite you to join in the sharing of food and happy memories at the church basement after the service. Interment to take place at a later date.
Donations in Monty’s memory can be made to the HIS Fire Rescue, 187 Main Street, Irishtown-Summerside, NL A2H 4A1 or e-transfer chiefparsons@hotmail.com (in message section please write "In Memory of Monty McAuley").
The funeral service will be live streamed, please follow the attached link https://event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=e0340567-bf8a-4242-a9e7-5dc069a2088d
…If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too will miss
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch
If my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief…
