Cecil Rowsell

September 16, 1935 - March 24, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Cecil Norman Rowsell announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit on March 24, 2025, at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: wife Sylvia (nee Goosney), children Blair (Sharon) and Lori (Alonzo), grandchildren Alyssa, Devin, Brianna, and Jordan, great-granddaughter Hannah, sisters Rose (Lorne) and Edna, brother Thomas, brother-in-law: Dale (Louise), and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by: son Trent (Katherine), grandson Brent, parents Thomas and Helena Rowsell, parents-in-law Raymond and Mildred Goosney, brothers Fred (Iris), Al (Marjorie), Bill (Joyce), Ross, sisters Helena and Mary, brothers-in-law Larry and Gene, and sister-in-law Laura.
The family is extremely grateful to the health care professionals on 4A and the Palliative Care Unit for their sincerity, generosity, and love they showed for Cecil and the family while he was in their care, with special mention to Joan and Brian.
Cecil loved and provided for his family through a 30-year career working at Corner Brook Pulp & Paper. He cherished his memories of numerous family camping trips, vacations to the “mainland” to visit his sons, daughter, and grandchildren, and time spent with his wife of 68 years at their trailer on Birchy Lake. His infinite wit and dry sense of humour will be fondly remembered with head shaking, knee slapping, and plenty of giggling! He loved the outdoors, reading, and a good game of cards.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home at 4 St. Marks Avenue on Sunday March 30, 2025 during the hours of 2-4 p.m. Salvation Army officer, Major Brian Wheeler will officiate the funeral service on Monday, March 31 at 2pm at the Salvation Army Corner Brook Community Church with private interment to follow at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of one’s choice.
