Eva Penney

Obituary of Eva Belle Penney

Please share a memory of Eva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Eva (Belle) Penney announce her passing on April 1st, 2025, at the Labrador Health Centre, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL at the age of 90 years.

She is predeceased by her husband: William; parents: Amelia and John; brothers: Lemuel and Raymond; sisters: Hilda, Jean and Betty; and her beloved nephew: Ray.

Left to mourn are her children: Christine (Mark), Ford (Gaye), Brenda (Dennis), Boyd (Blanche), Bill (Peggy), Baxter (Peggy) and Bonnie (Morgan); grandchildren: Blythe (Gerard), Stephen (Patti), Bobby, Bride (Dain), Jamie (Dallas), Joshua, Dayna (John), William and Rosa; great grandchildren: Rayah, Dakota, Liam, Raven, Nate and Max; sisters: Fannie, Clara and Rita (Scott); and a large circle of nieces and nephews.

Eva was born in George’s Cove on September 27th, 1934, and was proud to be raised in George’s Cove and Port Hope Simpson. She was  a strong and courageous woman with a ready laugh who loved her family of 7 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She enjoyed her little trips and seeing new things like Butterfly World and Butchart Garden and her trip on her 64th birthday to Hawaii. However, it did not compare to her love for the sun and snow of Labrador.

She felt fortunate to have lived to 90 and she talked about how much she enjoyed her celebration last September with all the family around her.

Since 2015 she has spent her spare time knitting dish cloths to donate to the gift shop at St. Claire’s Hospital. This was her way to give back. She recuperated from two surgeries at the hospital and was grateful for the care she received.

On Volunteer’s Day, last April, she received a thank you and a package of perennial seeds from the St. Claire’s Auxiliary. With the seeds planted in pots in the spring, she spent her summer nurturing her flowers and watching them grow.

A special thank you to the nurses and doctors for their kindness, compassion and care during her stay at the Labrador Health Centre.
