It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on April 18, 2025, Roy Howell (Corner Brook, NL) passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Roy passed away in his 93rd year surrounded by his family at the Western Memorial Palliative Care Unit. Roy was born in 1931 and lived his life in Corner Brook, NL, where he met the love of his life Pauline. Roy married Pauline in 1956 and had four children that were the light of their lives. Roy and Pauline were the true meaning of a wonderful marriage and an inspiration to us all during their 67 years of marriage.
Roy leaves to mourn his children, Todd (Barbara), Brent (Sharon), Laurie Philpott (Andrew), Peter (Sheri), his grandchildren, Anna (Abishak), Jocelyn (Matt), Scott Philpott (Michaela), Bradley Philpott (Denicia), Emma, Lucas, Sahrya, Meaghan Brown (Yannick), Ally Brown (Kyle), his great grandchildren, Maggie and Audrey MacDonald as well as his siblings, Dorothy Kennedy and Glenda (John) Langer. Roy also leaves to mourn his in-laws, Jean Howell and Bill Camp (Marilyn) as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Roy was predeceased by his wife Pauline, parents, Claude and Irene Howell, his siblings, Woodrow (Eileen), Max (Doris), Jean Jewer (Jim) and Ron, his in-laws, Rev. George and Ella Camp, Harry Camp (Emily), Norma Gray (Cliff), Edna Humber (Ray), Dorothy Hunt (Sandy), Margaret House (Ron) and (Jack King).
Roy was a volunteer with Humber United Church and an active member of its Men’s Club as well as a Mason with Corner Brook Masonic Lodge. He was an enthusiastic cub leader for many years. Roy loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed cooking, baking and the many wonderful trips to their cabin at Crabbes River. After retirement Roy had many adventures cross-country skiing with life-long friend Jim Noel. He had no lack of energy cheering for his Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays and Corner Brook Royals.
Roy’s family would like to give a special thanks to Rev. Jocelyn Cook and the caring staff at Western Memorial Palliative Care Unit.

Visitation will take place on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Marks Ave at 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
A celebration of life will take place Tuesday, April 22, 2024, at Corner Brook United Church on Park Street at 10:30 am with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating. Interment to take place following the service at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
