Joan Marie (Maynard) McHugh

September 27, 1933 – June 10, 2025

Corner Brook, NL

It is with love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Joan McHugh, cherished mother of eight; Susan (Bill Priestly), Eric (Eileen), Don (Diane), Mark (Leslie), Michael (Dianne), Sonja (Dave Companion d. 2007), Bill (Gail) and Gordon (Heidi).  Beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, and the heart of our family. Born in Corner Brook Newfoundland. Joan raised her family in Oakville Ontario before retiring back to her beloved Newfoundland with her husband and true love Firmin “Charlie” McHugh (d. 2007). Their 54-year marriage was a beautiful partnership, filled with adventure, mutual admiration and unwavering love.

Joan had many roles and titles-mentor, coach, cheerleader, seamstress and “boss of all bosses”, but most of all she was a constant source of strength, warmth, and care to her large, ever growing and loving family. Her legacy lives on through her children and their extended families, who carry her values and spirit forward. As per Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment at Mount Patricia Cemetery, Corner NL will take place on Saturday, September 27th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Corner Brook, NL. www.fillatre.ca
