It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lou Sheppard on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the age of 61.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her devoted husband of 44 years, Allan; her beloved children, Kayla and Sean (Sheena); cherished grandchildren, Logan and Marcus; her mother Louise Sheppard; siblings: Sean Sheppard (Karen), Allison Sheppard (Tim), Robert Sheppard, Bonnie Astorina (Mario), Shirley Parsons; sisters-in-law Janie and Marilyn; brother-in-law Michael; and her special fur baby Bella. Mary Lou will also be remembered by extended family including, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, friends and all whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by her father Harold Junior; sister Mary; grandparents William and Daisy Hancock, Malcolm Pearce, Harold and Mary Sheppard; mother and father-in-law Roland and Charlotte Sheppard.

In addition to her family, Mary Lou’s pride and joy was the business she and Allan built together - Captain Cooks Cottages in York Harbour. She gave her whole heart to this venture, and anyone who stayed there could attest to the care and passion she poured into every detail. Guests were never just guests- she treated them like family, and took great pride in seeing others enjoy the comfort and beauty of their stay.

Mary Lou took pride in her community and was a passionate nature lover. She believed deeply in the power of small actions to make a big difference and dedicated herself to environmental causes with unwavering commitment.  She held a special place in her heart for children and devoted many years to being a foster parent, offering love, stability and care to countless young lives. Her legacy of compassion, kindness and community service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A heartfelt thank you to Western Memorial Regional Hospital Chemotherapy Unit and palliative care unit. Your kindness, compassion and dedication will never be forgotten.
