Obituary of Doreen Taylor (CARD OF THANKS)
On behalf of our entire family, we want to thank everyone for the incredible love and support shown to our family during the loss of our dear mother. The phone calls, messages, flowers, food, donations, and kind words have meant more than we can say.
Your thoughtfulness has carried us through this difficult time, and we are so deeply grateful. Please know that your kindness has touched our hearts in ways we will never forget.
-Mary, Phyllis, Randy, Susan, Janet, Robert & families
She spent her days here on earth loving us well, and she will continue to do so - Just from a different place, that’s all.
On July 16th, 2025, in a bed surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and an abundance of love, Doreen Taylor (nee Christopher) passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, joining the love of her life, Austin Taylor, in Heaven.
Doreen, affectionally referred to as ‘Nanny’ by most, was at her happiest tending on those that she loved. Children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she spent the best part of her years happily caring and cooking for others.
When Nanny still had her health, she would most likely be found in her kitchen on the Plant Hill - Especially come meal time. Like clockwork, three times a day, her and Pop would be sat at the kitchen table, a home cooked meal in front of them, and always a cup of tea in hand.
Pop went to Heaven five years ago, and from that very day until Wednesday evening when she finally joined him - She ached for nothing more than to be by his side. She would quite often say “Nothing's been the same since my man went.” They are together once again, just as they are meant to be, and most definitely having a cup of tea together at Heaven’s dinner table.
Left to celebrate the life and love of Doreen are: Her children Mary Davis (George), Phyllis Delaney (Tony Sr.), Randy (Alma), Susan Butler (Wade), Janet (Fred Wheeler), Robert (Lori). Doreen was an incredible grandmother to Tony Delaney Jr. (Heather), Tanya Gillingham (John Carter), Geoffrey Davis (Ashley), Tara (Andy Kelloway) and Krista Butler (Mark Halfyard), Alecia (Jamie Park), Victoria (Jamie Fudge), Rochelle (David Alexander), and Raquel (Kyle Randell), and a loving great-grandmother to Jack (Mackenzie), Elle, Sam, Seth, Joshua, Matthew, Breanna, Westyn, and her newest bundle that not even dementia could keep her from adoring, little Indie Rae.
Doreen will be sadly missed by her siblings Margaret, Jean (Rendell) and Gerald (Kay), sisters in law Eileen, Geraldine, and brother-in-law Harold Rentz, and a numerous number of special nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Meeting Doreen in Heaven are her loving husband of 64 years, Austin “Aus” Taylor, her parents Joseph and Mary Ellen (nee George), siblings Thomas, William, Patricia, and Kevin, and brother-in-law David.
Doreen’s family would like to take this time to thank the WMRH nursing staff of the emergency room, the 4th level nursing unit, and especially the Palliative Care Unit (room 315 and the sparkles left behind will forever remind the staff of her). Much appreciation as well to Dr. M. Smallwood and Dr. Brown for their incredible care for Nanny over the years. The family are appreciative of the utmost respect that Doreen was given during her care, and your kindness will never be forgotten. The family would also like to acknowledge the love that was shown to Doreen from four exceptional humans - Connie Brake and Debbie Hiller, who went above and beyond their nursing duties for Doreen during her stay in the PCU, her home care worker, Sheila Buckle, who she gladly spent so many days with, and also to Shelley Taylor, who meant it when she said “I’m only next door if you need anything at all.”
As per the requests of Doreen, no visitation or service will be occurring. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Daffodil Place or the WMRH Palliative Care Unit in her memory.
“There’s no place like home - Except Nanny’s.”
In Loving Memory
