Karl Cyril Farnell
December 24, 1948 – July 16, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Karl Cyril Farnell, born December 24, 1948, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Karl passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories. He will be forever missed by his devoted wife of 55 years, Helen Ruth Farnell, whose steadfast love was his anchor throughout life. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Georgina Taylor, Gale (Robert) Moffett, Sharon Pike and Bruce (Bonnie) Farnell; brothers-in-law Joseph Ruth, Patrick Ruth and Abraham (Debbie) Ruth; sisters-in-law Evelyn Veinot, Ivy (Joseph) Gallant, Malvena Taylor, Judy (Gord) Batt and June (Calvin) Taylor; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored his warmth, his wit, and his stories.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Leta and Clyde Cyril Farnell, his brother Kevin Duncan Farnell, and sister Ruby Farnell MacDonald.
Karl spent 48 years sailing the Great Lakes, a life at sea that shaped his spirit and gave him endless tales to tell. His love for the water was matched only by his love for the land—fishing, hunting, and simply enjoying the beauty of nature with those he loved most. He was the kind of man who would brighten any room, take the time to share a laugh or lend a hand, and always made time for a drive just to see where the road would take him.
Karl’s heart was vast, his presence gentle, and his soul filled with generosity and kindness. He lived a full and honorable life, and his memory will live on in every wave that hits the shore, every story retold around the fire, and every moment of quiet peace in the woods he loved.
A celebration of Karl’s life will be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home Chapel, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Saturday, August 2nd at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family may visit prior from 12 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by inurnment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery Niche Wall. Reverend Terry Loder officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider sharing a memory, a story, or a simple act of kindness in Karl’s name.
Fair winds and following seas, Karl. You will be missed beyond measure.
