Obituary of Roy Cyril Giles

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Roy Cyril Giles announce his passing at Western Memorial, Palliative Care Unit on July 27th, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Roy was born in 1951 to Margaret and Jesse Giles of Ramea. As a boy, Roy followed in his father’s footsteps which led him to a life on the ocean. In 1969, Roy married his partner in love and life, Margaret Jane. Together they grew a beautiful family with three children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

May Roy always be remembered for his love of family, his appreciation for the outdoors, and his joy of music. He loved to be on the water, by the river with a salmon rod or in the woods with his chainsaw and was happiest when behind the wheel of his side-by-side with Margaret as his navigator.

Roy leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 56 years, Margaret, his children; Emily (John), Rick (Natalie), and Krista (Darwin), his grandchildren Shane, Ryan, Caitlin, Kyle, Tyler, Alexander (Kate) and Emma, his great-grandchildren Deegan, Draiden, and Loretta, his brothers Cecil (Edith) and Henry (Mary) and his sister Geraldine, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.

Roy was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Jesse Giles, parents in-law, Margaret and Clyde Pink, sister Alma Hatcher, and brother-in-law Joe Meleck.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the nurses and staff at Western Memorial’s Palliative Care Unit who’s kindness and compassion go above and beyond what is expected.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Western Memorial’s Cancer Care Centre or a charity of one’s choice.

Following Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place to be followed with a funeral service for family and friends at Fillatre Funeral Home and Chapel, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10 am with Rev. Petten officiating.
