Kenneth (Ken) Lloyd Blanchard
February 22, 1959 - July 31, 2025
Cox’s Cove, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth (Ken) Lloyd Blanchard announce his passing on July 31, 2025 at his home in Cox’s Cove at the age of 66 years.
Ken worked in Ontario for most of his early years but returned home and became a fisherman, harvesting lobster, cod, crab and halibut. He retired from this 2 years ago. He spent a lot of time at his cabin in Goose Arm where he often entertained his friends in good old Newfie style. He enjoyed a good game of darts and loved moose hunting. Ken wore a long beard and some young children thought he was Santa Claus. He played that role every Christmas by delivering Christmas gifts to some children who thought he was indeed Santa Claus. Though Ken was larger than life, loud, and outspoken, he had a soft spot that many were not aware of. He was always quick to drop a gift or a few dollars in the hands of our youngest children. When he lived in Ontario he often had friends or relatives live with him when they relocated from Newfoundland to Ontario. When they got a job and moved to their own place he sent them off with his furniture and purchased new furniture for himself.
Ken was the son of Mona and Rodney Blanchard of McIvers, NL. Ken leaves to mourn Debbie, his wife of 30 years, son Christopher Carr (Jennifer), granddaughters Madison, Jocelyn, and Payton, sisters Dale (Wallace) and Judith (Marvin), brothers Rick (Delphine), Carl (Angela), and Michael (Shirley), father-in-law Bert Moore in Ontario, sister-in-law Wendy Tonetti (Thom) in Charlotte, North Carolina, brother-in-law Wade (Darlene) Pack, Hermitage, NL., and his special friends Robert and Lisa House.
Ken was predeceased by his parents Rodney and Mona Blanchard, sisters Marie (Blanchard) Pack and Arlene Blanchard, brother Gary Blanchard and mother-in-law Madonna Moore. He also leaves a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
As per Ken’s request, cremation has taken place. No formal visitation or funeral will take place at this time. A celebration of life will be held later.
