Obituary of Calvin Penney

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Calvin Penney announce his passing on August 24th, 2025, in his home, surrounded by family, at the age of 75 years.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Julia of 53 years; children, Darnell (Trina), Benita, Herman (Charlene), Bonnie, and April (Aubrey); grandchildren, Aaron (Caitlin), Ronnie (Trisha), Gina (Devon), Nicco (Megan), Allan (McKenna), Lucas (Victoria), and Brody; great-grandchildren, Daxton, James, Aria, Simon, and Lily; brother, Austin (Glynes); sisters, Charlotte (Gerald), and Sharon (Bert); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. 

Calvin was predeceased by his parents, Ronald Sr. and Clara Penney; brothers, Stanley, and Ronald Jr; and sister, Joyce.

Calvin was a quiet and kind man. A wonderful husband, dad, and pop. There was no greater love than the love he bestowed on his family and how proud he was of them.

He was a great provider, a hard worker, and a man of many talents. He was a fisherman, mechanic, heavy equipment operator, business owner, and will always be known to some as the “groomerman”. Calvin will always be remembered for his friendly smile and gentle waves.

The Penney family would like to express a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all that have helped in any way during this difficult journey. Special thanks and appreciation to the staff at our local clinic, in Port Hope Simpson, NL, especially Joanne and Joy, for going above and beyond.

Visitation will take place on Monday, August 25, 2025, from the hours of 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from the hours of 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. both visitations will be held at the Pentecostal church in Port Hope Simpson, NL.

The funeral service will take place at Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, starting at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gail Williams officiating.
