In Loving Memory of Shane Ronald Kelly
February 5, 1975 – August 28, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness, the family of Shane Kelly announce his peaceful passing on August 28, 2025 at the Corner Brook, Western Memorial Regional Hospital. Shane’s strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Shane was a man of remarkable character; loving, intelligent, level-headed, charismatic, and deeply compassionate. Even in the face of adversity, he carried himself with humor, grace, and an infectious optimism that lifted those around him. His journey was a testament to the healing power of laughter, the resilience of faith, and the beauty of a heart full of love.

A devoted husband and father, Shane’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished every moment with his beloved wife Tanya (aka Ducky Doo) and their three sons Logan (aka Logi Bear), Jonah (aka Blueberry Eyes), and Isaiah (aka Peanut). His love for them was boundless, and his guidance, warmth, and presence will forever be etched in their hearts. Shane led by example, showing his boys what it means to live with integrity, courage, and compassion. He enjoyed his time spent in the cabin watching old movies on the VHS, campfires, hiking, snowmobiling and watching Jonah and Isaiah ride dirt bikes, sometimes he would join them, along with his brother and best friend Brent. Many nights were spent sitting in the rec. room with his family, playing board games, listening to vinyl records and one of his favorites, listening to his son Logan play the guitar and sing.

Shane's career in aviation was marked by excellence and dedication. He was also a skilled and passionate pilot. Whether soaring through clear skies or navigating turbulent weather, Shane approached flying with the same grace, confidence, and steady hand that defined his life. The cockpit was his sanctuary, a place where his love for freedom, discipline, and exploration came together. His career in aviation was marked by excellence and dedication. Colleagues admired his professionalism, his calm demeanor, and his ability to lead with quiet strength. For Shane, flying wasn’t just his job—it was his calling. He often said that being in the air reminded him of life’s vastness and beauty, and he carried that perspective into every relationship and challenge he faced. Shane travelled all over the world but some of his most memorable was his 14 years flying in the Arctic; flying medivacs (often helping the medics care for patients, like true Shane style, he always went above and beyond what was required). He flew scheduled flights, as well as chartered flights that often meant landing on rough terrain with no airstrip. He got so much pleasure in flying the plane low to the ground, over snow covered grounds in the winter or rocky regions in the summer, selecting what looked to be a good place to land, overshooting and coming back around where he always landed safely. While dangerous for most, it was a skill Shane acquired by learning from those that were best in the field and whom he admired immensely. Shane was one of the rare pilots who could proudly say he flew to the South Pole and almost made it to the North Pole, just shy of a few hundred kilometers. A distinction most pilots will never know; however, he'd never be one to speak it. Even in his final months, Shane spoke of the skies with reverence, reminding us that life is meant to be lived with courage and wonder. His legacy will continue to soar in the hearts of those he loved and inspired.

Shane will be missed beyond measure by his loving wife Tanya; his sons Logan, Jonah, and Isaiah; his mother Judy (Mitch); his father Ronald (Bonita); his brother Brent (Amanda); his father-in-law Lynn Marsden (Marie), sisters-in-law Gail (Paul), Tracy, Denna (Dion); step-siblings, Vicki, Bryan, Ryan, Chris and Kelsie, as well as the many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his closest friends Jamie White and Wade Kelly as well as the Newfoundland Pilots and those in his Toronto crash pad. He will be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Predeceased by his grandparents, Andrew and Elizabeth Kelly, Scott Brentnall and Joyce Brentnall (Nan B) and by his mother-in-law, Vivian Marsden.

Thank You to the amazing staff in 5A, 5B, The Cancer Clinic and ICU of Western Memorial Regional Hospital. You provided Shane the best care over the past 4 months and he was so touched by your kindness and compassion to him and his family. Both Shane and Tanya formed special bonds with so many of you, it will have an everlasting impression on his family.

Though Shane’s physical presence has left us, his legacy of love, laughter, and strength will continue to inspire and guide us. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved so fiercely.
