Obituary of Malcolm Hugh Payne

Malcolm Hugh (Hughie) Payne passed away peacefully at Dartmouth General Hospital on August 14, 2025 at the age of 90 years.

Leaving to remember and celebrate his life are, his wife Rose, his three children Brian (Camilla), Bonita and Blair, his three step-children Lesley (Todd), Kelly (Greg) and Dee-Dee (Adam), his five grandchildren Scott, Mark (Katie), Anne, Adam and Petra, his four great grandchildren Liam, Lily, Emma and Benjamin.

Hughie survived Vascular Dementia for many years and spent the past 15 months residing at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia.

The family would like to thank the staff of Harbourside Unit at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre for the demonstration of compassion and kindness in their care of Hughie during his time with them. A special thank you to Carl, Hughie’s companion in Harbourside Unit for his unwavering daily support for Hugie. A special thank you to his niece Lisa for her kindness and compassion for Hughie during his recent hospitalization.

As per Hughie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal funeral or service as per his request.
