Obituary of Eric Robert Allen

Eric Robert Allen
October 3, 1939 – October 1, 2025

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late Eric Robert Allen of Curling announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital on October 1, 2025, at the age of 85.

Left to mourn, with fond and loving memories, are his three sons: Jeff (Gayle), Paul (Judy), and Mike (Tammy); his precious grandchildren Jordan Allen (Sarah), Erika Critchley (Ryan), Laura Allen (Eric), Michaela Allen (Luke), and Megan Allen (Cody); and his great-grandson, William Critchley. He will also be remembered by his brother, Floyd Allen; sisters, Lorena Monette (Don), Ann Davies, and Eva Allen; sisters-in-law, Pat Allen, Gwen Gillette, Cheryl Gillette, and Yvonne Bagnell (Grant); brother-in-law, Irving Gillette (Leona); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Eric is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce (née Gillette); parents, Robert and Mary Ellen Allen; parents-in-law, John and Olga Gillette; brothers, Bud Allen (Neta) and Fraser Allen; sisters-in-law, Valda Allen and Joan Thistle (Guy); and brothers-in-law, Wally Legge, Dave Gillette, Reg Gillette, and Herb Davies.

Eric worked at Bowaters/Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Mill for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, salmon fishing, and cutting wood. He was happiest when in the woods, spending countless nights with family and friends at Little Falls, Serpentine River, and the cabin—his three favourite places.

As a family, we feel so fortunate to have known and loved such a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend. We are forever grateful for the time we shared with him and for the many cherished memories he leaves behind.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the 5th ACE Ward and the Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care Eric received during his time of need.

As per Eric's wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Sunday, October 5, from 2:00-4:00PM, 7:00-9:00PM. The funeral service will be held at Saint Mary The Virgin Anglican Church, 456 Curling Street on Monday, October 6 at 2:00PM with Rev. David Taylor officiating.
