Obituary of Shirley Jeanette King

It is with sad hearts that the family of the late Shirley Jeanette King (nee Sansome,) of Corner Brook, NL, announce her passing on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the age of 93.

Shirley enjoyed participating in many hobbies and recreational activities over her long and active lifetime. She excelled at everything she endeavored. Being a perfectionist, Shirley created award wining leather work. Her sewing and macrame skills were second to none. In addition, she had a proficient green thumb and the bountiful flowers, vegetables and berries she grew in her garden brought much joy to herself and others. In her younger years she was a very good bowler, swimmer and cross country skier. More than anything though, Shirley loved to entertain, serving up delicious home made meals along with home made bread and the tastiest of sweets and buns for dessert. For many decades, Shirley and her faithful husband of 74 years, Clyde, enjoyed playing regular Saturday night cards with a large circle of great friends.

Shirley has left us with an abundance of love. She is predeceased by her father Thomas Sansome, mother Laura Sansome (nee Rogers) brothers Norman, Cyril, Clifford, Donald and sister Olive. Left to mourn Shirley's passing are her loving husband Clyde, son Gregory (Beverley) , grandsons Travis and Geoff (Krissie) , special friends Jean Mercer and Sylvia Smith, extended family and friends.

 The Family would like to acknowledge the kindness and caring of friends Debbie & Gary Murley, Daisy & David Murrin, Phyllis & Garfield Cadwell, the staff and medical personal at Bungalow #1, the staff at Mountainview Retirement Centre, Dr. Kate Lafferty and the Palliative Care team of Western Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, Reverend Jocelyn Cook   as well as the staff at Fillatre's Funeral Home.

Visitation will occur on Sunday, October 19, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue in Corner Brook. Service will take place at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue at 10:00 am on Monday, October 20^th with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating; interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. A reception will be held at Fillatre’s after the interment service, all are welcome to join us for food and refreshments.  In lieu of flowers, donations if desired, can be made to the Western Regional Hospital Foundation.
