Obituary of Dorothy Olive Rose
Dorothy O. Rose
August 5, 1946 - October 27, 2025
Ramea, NL
It is with profound sadness that the family of Dorothy ‘O’ Rose announce her peaceful passing on Monday, October 27th, 2025, at the Calder Health Care Center in Burgeo. She was 79 years old.
Dorothy was born on Deer Island to Suzanna and John “Jack” Eavis, the fifth of six children — Jim, Annie, George, Bill, Dorothy, and Jack.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband John, her dear son Bob, her cherished son-in-law Barry Keeping, her parents Suzanna and John Eavis, her in-laws Rita and Joshua Rose, siblings Annie, James, William, and John, brothers-in-law Jimmy Rose, Gordon Rose, Clarence Ingram, and Hubert Giles, and sisters-in-law Beatrice Rose and Catherine Eavis.
Dorothy and Johnny were married on September 24th, 1963, and together built a loving home filled with laughter, kindness, and faith. They raised five children — Darlene, Bob, Wade, Jackie, and Merle. The tragic loss of her son Bob in 1987 left a lasting ache in her heart, one she carried quietly and bravely, often marked by silent tears on special occasions.
Those who knew Dorothy will remember her as one of the strongest and kindest souls you could ever meet. She had a heart big enough for everyone — people and animals alike — and a deep compassion for anyone in need. She listened without judgment, offered wisdom without hesitation, and loved without limits. Even as dementia slowly took her from us, glimpses of her spirit shone through — a knowing smile, a gentle laugh, a spark of humor in her eyes.
Her door was always open, her arms always ready to welcome you home.
During her time at Calder Health Care LTC, Dorothy continued to bring joy to those around her. She could often be heard singing softly through the halls, sharing the songs and “diddlys” she loved so dearly. Her caregivers encouraged her music and helped her keep that part of herself alive for as long as possible. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Calder for their compassion, patience, and kindness. Their care and encouragement brought comfort not only to Dorothy, but to her entire family.
The family would also like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Joyce, Dorothy’s daughter-in-law. Joyce cared for Mom as if she were her own — always ensuring she had everything she needed, speaking on her behalf, and sharing precious pictures and videos that kept the family connected. She spent countless hours by Mom’s side, offering love, comfort, and companionship. To us, she was an angel to Mom, and the family could not be more grateful for her devotion and kindness.
Dorothy leaves behind to mourn and celebrate her life her loving children Darlene (Bob), Wade (Joyce), Jackie (Frank), and Merle (Charlene); her cherished grandchildren Stephen, Andrea (Morgan), Stephanie (Joey), Jaedon, Bobbie, Amy, and Konnor; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Aurora, and Jack, along with a large circle of family and friends who will miss her deeply but carry her memory always.
Funeral services will take place at St Boniface Church in Ramea at 2 PM on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025.
