Obituary of Llew Allingham
Please share a memory of Llew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family of Llew Allingham sadly share the news of his passing on October 24, 2025
Born on December 29, 1944, in Cook’s Harbour, Newfoundland to William and Gladys Allingham, Llew was the 13th of 14th children. He married Thelma Patey on July 5, 1968, and together they created a beautiful life.
Llew’s career as a welder led him from Newfoundland to Goose Bay, Labrador, the Big Land, in the mid-1960’s. He brought his new bride here and they settled into life together, welcoming their three children: Chris, Jo-Anne and Jenelle. Llew was a humble man, but always proud when speaking of his family.
Never shy to work, Llew moved the Allinghams to Churchill Falls in 1980, a decision he never once regretted. Dedicated to his family and his community, Llew was involved in his church, minor hockey and other volunteer activities. He was the “go-to-guy”, always willing to lend a hand and help a friend.
It was those friends in Churchill Falls that became a second family, The Nobles, Greens and Clarkes. Many milestones, holidays, vacations, laughs and trips down-river were shared over many years of friendship.
Llew loved children and the feeling was mutual. Children were drawn to him like ducks to water. He loved to play, tease and torment. Bringing him grandchildren and expanding our family brought him immeasurable joy. They were the jewel in his crown and never failed to bring a smile to his face.
Finally retiring in 2007 and returning to Goose Bay, life continued; volunteering, skidooing, playing cards and laughing with old and new friends.
Leaving Labrador and moving to Ontario was a difficult, but logistical decision. While Llew might have been there in body, his heart was still back in Labrador.
Llew leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years, Thelma (Patey), son, Chris (Debbie), daughters Jo-Anne Black (Chris) and Jenelle Penney (Rick), and six adored grandchildren, Jarred, Thomas, Charlotte, Theresa, Hannah (Colin) and Noah. Sisters, Grace (late Harold), Triff (late Ern), Laverne (late Ralph) and June (Ralph). Predeceased by sisters Olive (late Fred), Drucella (late Frank), Alma (late Gill) and brothers Tom, Basil (Irene), Edgar (Elsie), Hoarce (late Hazel), Stedman (late Marjorie) and Rex. In-laws Rex (Leah), Don (Masie), Judy (late Ern), Terry (Karen), Randy (Mary), Kirby (Glennis) Patey as well as the late Dennis (Millicent), Glenn and Darren Patey. We cannot neglect to remember two extra children, Carlos from Honduras and Alice from Hong Kong. Llew also leaves a beautiful bouquet of nieces and nephews as well as many dear and cherished friends.
Llew truly was a good man. The number of condolences and messages that have poured in is a testament to how well he loved and how much he was loved in return. We are all the better for him sharing his life with us.
The Allingham family would like to thank the staff of the Kemptville District Hospital for taking such gentle and compassionate care of Dad. Never wanting to be a burden to anyone, Llew was very appreciative of their kindness and attention.
Services will be held at 11am on Friday, November 28, 2025, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, with a reception to follow at the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Llew’s memory to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. All donations will be graciously accepted.
