Obituary of Cheryl Veronica Hancock
Please share a memory of Cheryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Cheryl Veronica Hancock announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 69.
Cheryl was born July 3, 1956, the youngest of four children to Cecil and Mabel Wellman. She spent her early years of life growing up on Belle Isle. A true Light Keepers daughter, this love for lighthouses followed her for her entire life.
She was a loving wife and the best mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend. Always loved an adventure, whether it was to the cabin, to the camper, many quadding trips, or a snowmobile ride. And she loved a good cruise ship!
Left to mourn with so many precious memories are her husband, Fred; daughter, Shelly; son, Ryan; grandson, Liam; and daughter-in-law, Susan. Her beloved sisters, Dale and Brenda, and brothers, Ward and Tony. As well as all her nieces and nephews, she loved you all dearly. Brothers- and sisters-in-law, who all held a special place in her heart. All her adventure buddies—she loved her camping trips and quad rides. Cherish those memories forever.
The family would like to thank the staff at Labrador South Health Centre in Forteau and the staff of the Chemo Unit and ICU at CCMH, St. Anthony. You are all angels and made the unbearable more bearable; the acts of kindness will never be forgotten. Rest easy now; you fought the good fight and have earned your wings. You will be loved and missed forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the chemotherapy unit at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, in Cheryl’s memory, would be graciously accepted.
Visitation will take place at the Forteau United Church on Thursday, November 6th, 2025, from the hours of 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at Forteau United Church on Friday, November 7th, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Alice Moores officiating. Interment to follow at Forteau United Church Cemetery.
