Joan Marjorie (Gillingham) Fudge

July 17, 1937 – November 12, 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan Marjorie Fudge (Gillingham), age 88, announce her peaceful passing on November 12, 2025, at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Joan lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to the people she loved. She was an avid bowler who cherished her Wednesday Afternoon Bowling League, a regular at Bingo, and someone who found great joy in spending time at the family cabin. Above all, Joan loved her family with her whole heart and gave freely to others throughout her life.

Joan and her husband, Dexter, co-owned "Fudge’s" Ideal Snack Bar on Poplar Road for nearly 20 years, a family business and welcoming space that fed and supported countless neighbours when they needed it most. The work they did there, grounded in compassion and community spirit, was something Joan held close to her heart.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Paul Gillingham, and her parents-in-law, Ruth and Raymond Fudge.

Left to mourn with full and grateful hearts are her best friend and loving husband of 70 years, Dexter Fudge; siblings Lorraine (Cyril) Snook, Paul (Lorraine) Gillingham, Florence (Charles) Newton, and George (Lorna) Gillingham; and daughters Deborah (John) Meaney, Joan (Terry) Cole, Karen (Dwayne) Lipton, and Connie (Peggy) Fudge. She will be forever missed by her grandchildren, Brad (Michelle), Samantha (Grant), Victoria, Evan (Brittany), Danielle (Jeremiah), David (Kendra), and her beloved grand-dog CoCo; and her great-grandchild, Blake Snook. Joan is also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Family was everything to Joan, and she showed that love every single day.

The parts of ourselves we are most proud of are the ones that remind us of our Mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan Fudge may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, or to a charity of your choice. Joan gave freely to others throughout her life, and continuing that kindness is the truest way to honour her memory.
