Reginald John Russell

June 23, 1947 – November 14, 2025

With deep respect and heartfelt gratitude, we announce the passing of Reginald John Russell, age 78 on November 14, 2025, at the Western Long Term Care. A devoted and caring husband, grandfather, father, brother and friend, Reg lived a full life dedicated to hard work, kindness, and love that built the foundation of our family.

Reg was born on June 23, 1947, in St. Anthony, NL to Hayward & Jessie Russell. He grew up primarily in Port Hope Simpson, NL and spent the summer months in Francis Harbour Bight, NL.

Known for his work ethic, Reg spent much of his life as a fisherman in Francis Harbour Bight. In 1985, Reg began working with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro as a relief diesel plant operator where he dedicated 38 years. Reg and his wife Stella owned and operated a variety of business ventures including, gas, a hardware store, and renting real estate.

Above all, Reg devoted most of his time loving his family. Reg married his wife and love of his life on May 6, 1969. Together they raised four children and later built a large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Reg will remember him as an incredibly hardworking man, who treated everyone with the upmost generosity and kindness. Whether you were family, a friend, a coworker, or even just a stranger at the store, he approached everyone with the same kindness. His unwavering support has created a legacy of love, lessons and stories that will continue to be carried through the memories of family and friends.

During his spare time, Reg was always sure to keep himself busy, whether that be finding a new project to complete around his property, tending to his garden, or retreating to his favorite place, his summer family home in Francis Harbour Bight. 

Leaving to morn, His wife of 56 years, Stella; Children: Guy (Velma) Russell, Calvin Russell, Nina (Brad) Penney; Grandchildren: Loren (Bobbi), Nikita, Breanna (Courtney), Summer, Shakira & Reggie; Great-grandchildren: Jorja, Thomas, Nikolas, Ivy, Isabella & Mckenna; Brother: Herbert (Elsie) Russell; Sisters: Patricia Russell, Linda Russell, Velma Larkham, Neta Russell & Joy Grzinia; A large extended family of nieces and nephews, and a large community of friends. Reg is predeceased by his parents, Hayward & Jessie Russell, Brothers: Hayward Russell, Harold Russell & Harvey Russell; Daughter, Marlene Russell.
