Harold Rex Wheeler

March 24, 1949 – November 16, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Harold Rex Wheeler, a beloved father and grandfather who left us suddenly on November 16, 2025 and the age of 76.

Leaving to mourn his two sons Justin (Michelle), Grant (Deanna), and his only grandson Dawson who he was so proud of. The mother of his children Faye Compagnon, and partner Jeannie Bennett. As well as a large circle of Brother and sister in Laws, nieces and nephews, and a large circle of friends he’s touched along the way. He was predeceased by his parents George and Mary (Park) Wheeler, his older brother Bernard, and his sister Melinda Joyce.

After growing up in Lark Harbour he left home at the age of 17 to pursue his first true love, music. He loved to perform and his musical talents and natural ability to play anything with strings and beyond was pure magic.

He travelled across Canada and the United States with his guitar being on radios and records throughout the 1960s and 70s. He lived in Ontario, Kansas and Tennessee to name a few, and played in every honkytonk bar along the way.

He was proud of this and so was his family. The stories of his life on the road were endless, and we will hold them near and dear forever. After meeting Faye and starting a family, he had to slow things down and set down some roots.

In the next 20 years he wore a few different hats including that of a superintendent in the oil sands of Alberta, and after moving back home to Lark Harbour in the mid-80s he was a business owner and worked and retired from the Western School District.

In his retired years he lived a quieter and simple life content with catching a few trout, kicking back with a cold one and cooking up some awesome late light food for whoever was around.

He would still occasionally pick up the guitar with family or friends in a quiet setting and when people’s toes were tapping this is when he truly came to life. Forever a showman.

He will be deeply missed but we will find comfort in knowing he lived his life to the fullest and on his own terms. His kind spirit will never be forgotten by family and friends, and his music will live in our hearts forever.
