It is with gratitude for a long and well-lived life that we announce the passing of Ronald Reginald Batten, age 88, on Tuesday, November 18th, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.

Ronald lived a full and joyful life, grounded in simple pleasures and the company of those he loved. He cherished his time in the outdoors, especially at the cabin in Howley, where he spent countless hours fishing and enjoying nature. He also had a lifelong passion for a good game of cards, sharing many laughs and friendly competition with family and friends.

Ronald leaves to mourn his loving partner of more than 30 years, Verna; his son Robert Batten (Nancy); daughter Tammy Park (Jody); and his adored grandchildren Caitlin (Caleb), Christopher (Alissa), Madison (Donovan), and Nathan.

He is also survived by his sisters Joyce Fitzgerald, Jean McGinn, and Gloria Robertson (Gerald); sisters-in-law Stella Caines and Gloria Blanchard; brothers-in-law Norm Parsons (Bride) and Cordell Parsons (Penny); special friend Lenny Green; as well as a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will remember him with great affection.

Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and May Batten; his wife, Marina House; and many other cherished family members who have gone before him.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Western Memorial Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Ron during his time there.

Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue, on Saturday, November 22nd, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Tanya White at the Fillatre’s Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation – Mental Health and Addictions Services.
