Joyce Borden

November 2, 1933 – November 21 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Joyce Madge (Buffett) Borden announce her passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility, Friday November 21st at the age of 92. Born November 2nd, 1933 in Belleoram, Newfoundland, Joyce was the 7th out of 10 children born to Cyril and Eleanor (Nellie) Buffett.

At age 8 the family moved to English Harbour West and at age 16 the family relocated to Aspen Road, Corner Brook. Joyce spent two summers at St John's College and at age 16 became a school teacher. Joyce taught for two years in a one room classroom in Harbour Mill and Corner Brook.

Joyce married Eric Borden in October 1954. Together, they created a beautiful life full of love, laughs, music and maybe a swallie or two. Joyce was a perpetual homemaker. The aroma of freshly baked bread would often welcome friends and family into her home. She was an avid knitter. She loved Newfie music and would quickly join into a sing-along and have a scuff. She opened her arms for her children, grandchildren, neighborhood kids, and sports teams. In her younger years, she was involved with the Anglican church, and volunteered with Sunday school and Brownies.  In her retirement she walked daily and attended bingo every Wednesday at the Elks Club with her dear sister Maxine Gushue, until the age of 90.

Known for her bright smile, easy laugh and quick wit, left to mourn her passing but celebrate her beautiful, fierce life-force are her children: Jennifer (late Frank) Bruce, Brenda (late David) Ginn, Eric (Giselle) Borden, Lynn (Rod) Gillam, Ron (Cindi) Borden,  Alison (Trevorr) Nielsen. Grandchildren: Andrea (Barry), Rhonda (Mike), Laura (Nick), Peter, Stephen (Bernadine), Elizabeth (Ryne), David (Lauren), Jeremy (Molly), Kara Rae, Danielle (Chris), Tyler (Robyn),  Nadia, Ari. Great-grandchildren: Erica, Jacob, Nickson, Eleanora, Ryder, Tenley, Halle, Nolan, Farris, Essa, and Hudson. Siblings: Gord (Verna) Buffett, George (Brenda) Buffett, Maxine (Ray) Gushue. In-Laws: Larry, Beatrice, Boyce (Late Betty), Bernard, Ann. Special friends Millicent (Late Gordon), Betty (Late Eric), and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.

Pre-deceased by loving husband Eric, her parents, Cyril and Eleanor, and older siblings Gladys (Bill), Winnie (Bill), Gerald, Harris (Jean), Rupert (Gladys), Eleanor (Lloyd). In-laws: Jack, Pierce, Betty. The loss of her husband Eric, and sister Eleanor, were exceptionally hard on Joyce and the family is certain Joyce is in their loving arms once again.

The family wishes to express tremendous gratitude to Dr. Callahan and to the Corner Brook Long Term Care Team on 4South for their tender and considerate care of Joyce in her final days.

Cremation has already taken place at Joyce’s request. The visitation will take place on Monday, November 24th at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Marks Ave, from 2-5 pm. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, November 25th at All Saints Church, Clarence St, 3:30 pm.
