Obituary of Christopher Michael Kelly
Please share a memory of Christopher to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Christopher Michael Kelly, 72, passed away peacefully at home in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness with cancer.
Born on April 2, 1953, in Howley, Newfoundland, Chris was the beloved son of the late Ronald and Ida Kelly. He carried his Newfoundland roots proudly throughout his life.
Chris is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Helen (née Power); and his daughter, Tammy (Anders) Nilsson. He is also survived by his brother, Brian of Gander, and his sister, Bet Kelly of St. John’s. Chris was predeceased by his sisters Barbara and Betty Ann.
Chris worked as a Salesman for the majority of his career. In fact, he earned the honour of Grand Prize Sales, receiving a 10oz bar of gold for his achievement. Later in life, towards retirement, he became an Electrician.
Chris found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. He loved spending days fishing on the water, woodworking, and a good game of cards, especially Scat. He loved ancient Egyptian History and was an enthusiast of astronomy. Taking road trips near and far with his family was one of his favourite things to do. Weekends were spent watching the Blue Jays; he wouldn’t miss a game. Chris loved to cook. He earned the title of “Master Chef,” from his in-laws in Sweden, who will also miss him dearly. One of his greatest pleasures was walking Chase, the family dog, who never left his side, especially during his last few days with us.
His quiet strength, gentle heart, and love for those around him will be cherished forever. He will be remembered with love, respect, and gratitude by all who knew him. It was the love, support, and many words of encouragement from friends, neighbours and loved ones that carried the family through this difficult time.
Special thanks to dear friend, Ronald Wall, who was a constant during Chris’ illness. His support for Chris was unwavering and much appreciated by the family.
The family would also like to express heartfelt thanks to the Home Palliative Care Team from Wolfville. The support, encouragement and high standard of care that we received from Nurse Mallory, Dr. Lucy, Dr. Burch and Dr. Swift was superb. Also, the family extends thanks and gratitude to Dr. Rebecca Taylor Clarke for her many house calls.
As per Chris’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no immediate service. A Celebration of Life will be held in 2026 in Corner Brook, NL.
In memory of Chris, you may make a donation to a charity of your choice.
