Obituary of Nelson Lynn Hulan
Nelson Lynn Hulan - Obituary
February 7, 1935 - December 3, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lynn Hulan announce his peaceful passing with family by his side, at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in Jeffrey’s, Newfoundland, on February 7, 1935, to Mary (Legge) and Leonard Hulan. Lynn lived a life rich in love, purpose, and quiet strength. A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, he was known for his gentle spirit and generous giving.
Lynn was a skilled carpenter who could put his hand to anything that needed fixing. He began working at an early age on the railway in Port aux Basques, later taking on roles as a surveyor’s hand during the build of the Trans-Canada Highway, driving trucks with the Department of Highways, and as a logger with Bowaters. He eventually completed his career as a respected and well-loved carpenter—work he took great pride in.
A man of simple pleasures, Lynn enjoyed time spent with family, caring for his home, sharing stories from “the old days,” and offering a helping hand wherever it was needed. He had a warm smile and a kindness that made everyone feel welcome.
Lynn leaves to mourn his children Sherry Hulan, Brent (Donna) Hulan, and Allan (Cindy) Hulan; his beloved grandchildren Ryan Gillis, Gavin (Amy) Gillis, Olivia Hulan (Brennan Anderson), Holly (Matt) Ellsworth, Lindsay Hulan (Craig Stewart), Maddison Hulan (Daniel Durdle), Acadia, and Abbigail Hulan; and his great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Gabriel, Liam, Braylen, and Callum Gillis; Noah, Claire, and Luke Stewart; Cohen and Theo Ellsworth; and Sadie and Aubree Anderson.
He is also survived by his last remaining sibling, Christina, his sisters-in-law Alice Hulan, Shirley Evans, Dale Skeard, Nola Butt, Sandra Evans, and brothers-in-law Jack Evans and Tom Butt, along with a large circle of relatives, nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Lynn was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine (Evans); his parents Mary and Leonard; his in-laws Allan and Winifred Evans; his sisters Ruth (Stewart) Young and Rose (Ike) Payne; his brothers William (Thirza) Hulan, George (Mary) Hulan, and Clement Hulan; brothers-in-law Max Evans, Ray Hulan and Allison Skeard; and sister-in-law Sherry Evans.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Donna L. Hulan, Lynn’s devoted primary home care worker, who became one of the brightest parts of his later years. What began as caregiving grew into something much deeper as Donna became family. Her compassion, laughter, and unwavering presence brought comfort and joy to Lynn every day. The family will forever be grateful for the love she showed him and the dignity she helped him maintain.
Lynn was equally blessed to have Annette Collier as his part-time caregiver. She brought warmth into his home each day, along with her delicious baking, and played an important role in the quality of his final years.
The family would also like to recognize Gladys Shears, whose kindness, patience, and gentle care made a meaningful difference in Lynn’s comfort and well-being in his early years of home care.
Lynn had other beautiful souls who spent time making his life better, like Dale Madore and other part time workers. The family will be ever grateful.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff of Bay St. George Long Term Care and the 4th Floor South Wing of Corner Brook Long Term Care for their exemplary compassion and care throughout Lynn’s stay.
Lynn’s final love in life was his little dog, Jack, who brought him endless joy, companionship, and healing in his last year. In honour of the bond they shared, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Southwest Coast SPCA, so that other animals—and the people who love them—may experience the same warmth and connection Lynn found with Jack.
Lynn's funeral will take place on Saturday, December 6 at 2 pm at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican church in Jeffrey's. Lynn will be put to rest in the Anglican cemetery following the service. Please join the family in the church hall after the service.
