Edward James Plowman

November 11, 1940 - December 15, 2025

It is with the utmost sadness that the family of the Late Edward James Plowman of Port au Choix, NL, announce his passing on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the Rufus Guinchard Health Care Centre, Port Saunders, NL where he peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 85 years. 

Edward was born in Sandy Cove to Ebbert and Mary Plowman.  Edward was known to be a quiet mannered and kind individual who worked hard over the years to provide for his family. At the age of 18 he set out to work with Bowaters in Deer Lake. He later found a job closer to home at the shipyard in Port au Choix for several years.  His Job portfolio then takes him to work at the lighthouse on Keppel Island and with Fishery Products from where he retired.  

The year 1958 was an important one for Edward, at the young age of 18 he met the love of his life Hilda with whom he married, settled and had three children.  They  shared a lifetime of love during those 62 years of marriage.  Edward was a family man, loved to have family and friends come to visit. His face would just light up with joy when surrrounded by them.  He was an avid antique collector while showing a great passion for the attached history.  He enjoyed learning and sharing folklore with each antique.  Edward had a genuine interest in our Newfoundland military and culture.  He will be forever missed.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Hilda, sons:  Milton (Loretta), Henry (Rhonda); daughter Josephine (Ellen); grandchildren:  Krista (Sean), Jordan (Alexis) Jolene (Wayne). Glen (Erika), Jamie (Ashleigh); great-grandchildren:  Michael, Connor, Summer, Jessa, Rielly, Anthony, Jeremy, Emma, Nora, Locklyn and Hudson; brothers:  Martin (Josephine), Stanley; sisters:  Celina, Madeline, Olive (Vince); sister-in-law Genevieve.

Edward is predeceased by his parents Ebbert and Mary (nee Lowe), sister Rita (Doug) Kennedy, brother Nelson, sister-in-law Celicia and brother-in-law John Critchley.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025 @ St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Port au Choix, NL from 7pm - 9pm.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 @ 11am, St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Port au Choix, NL with Father Jaison officiating.  Cremation will follow and an interment will take place at a later date.
