Obituary of Judith Ann Freake

The family of Judith Ann Freake announce her passing on December 16, 2025 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 73. 

Judy is reunited with her husband, Neil, her parents, Willis and Joan, and her stepmother, Bessie, who predeceased her. Celebrating her life are her four children, Cory (Karen), Cynthia (Trevor), Cathy (Chris), and Christopher (Amanda), along with their families, her siblings, and countless extended family members and friends who will continue to remember her fondly.

Judy shared a special bond with her grandchildren, Zachary, Jillian, Jocelyn, Zoe, Samuel, Sarah, Jack, Benson, Joel, Elliott, and Jane, who brought her immense joy and whom she loved unconditionally.

Judy’s greatest joy was caring for others. She devoted her life to raising her children, and as her family grew, she warmly welcomed grandchildren and even strangers into her home. Together with Neil, she shared that generosity by operating ‘Judy’s Bed & Breakfast’ from their family home in Deer Lake for several years, where guests often spoke of her hospitality.

Judy had the ability to take very little and turn it into so much more. She is remembered for her gift of turning a house into a home, simple ingredients into a hearty meal, and always making things feel complete, comfortable, and full of care.

A special thanks to Colleen, Reg, Paulette, and Barry for their ongoing care and support during this time of need. The family would also like to thank all who provided meals, condolences, and shared fond memories.

Lastly, Judy’s family would like to send thanks to all of those that cared for her at home and the Western Memorial Regional Hospital’s medical staff of 4C and the Palliative Care Unit for their compassion towards both Judy and the family.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 17 Spruce Street, Deer Lake, NL on Friday, December 19, 2023, from 11 am to 12 pm, where also a celebration of Judy’s life will take place at 2:30 pm with Rev. Simon officiating. Interment will follow at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery on Wight’s Road.
