Obituary of Laura Florence Bartlett

Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts, we share the sad news that Laura Florence Bartlett (b. December 10, 1941) passed peacefully away with family at her side at Western Long Term Care on December 21, 2025. Laura was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Herman, and by her mother Mary (née Richards) and father Frank Rose, brothers Alfred, Earl, Gordon and David, and sisters Elizabeth, Jean, Beulah, Irene and Rita. She leaves to mourn with loving memories, her sons Stephen (Sylvia) and Gary (Elaine), grandchildren Neil (Marcella), Owen, Lucy, Evelyn and great-grandson Gabriel Bartlett, as well brother Ronald (Verna) and sisters Eleanor (Edward) Dawe and Brenda (John) Lilly.

Laura used her innate traits of care, compassion and intelligence to become that special person who could rise to the challenge and make any situation better. From an early age she did the books for her father’s business, she played piano, was a Girl Guide leader, a Big Sister and was a determined hostess who was only happy when everyone had a full plate, a full glass and a big smile.

Laura took delight in her large and extended family. She cared deeply for her sisters and cherished their travels together, even going so far as driving the mini van for their annual group explorations of Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

In her professional life, Laura was a dedicated and admired instructor and mentor to many students at the Vocational School. With her endless drive and energy, she obtained her B.Voc.Ed. (MUN) degree after many years of night classes and summer school courses, all while raising two energetic and demanding sons. She progressed to the peak of her profession; her humility and modesty precluded her from boasting of her many accomplishments.

Laura’s deepest satisfaction was obtained from her grandchildren, she always took the time to make each one feel special, unique and loved. She travelled the world with her husband; enjoying new friendships, exotic locales and many adventures, but her heart was never far away from her family.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Wadhwa and to Laura’s stalwart lifelong friend Joan Fisher. Our deepest gratitude also goes to the nurses and care attendants on the Still Waters wing of Western Long Term Care for the care and compassion shown to Laura during her stay there. Your dedication and professionalism has been admirable and appreciated.

In keeping with Laura’s wishes, cremation will take place. The family will be receiving friends at Fillatres Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Tuesday, December 23 between the hours of 2-4 p.m., where the passing of both Herman and Laura will be recognized. This will be immediately followed by a brief service in the Fillatres chapel with Reverend Mickton officiating. A ceremony of interment will occur at a later date at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
