Obituary of Richard Joseph Tourrette
Richard Joseph Tourrette
May 23, 1949 – December 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished Poppa, Richard Joseph Tourrette of Mainland, who passed away at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Thursday, December 25, 2025. Born in Three Rock Cove, Richard was the youngest child of the late John (Jack) and Annie Francis Turrett(née Young).
Richard carried a lifelong appreciation for the land, the sea, music, and, most of all, family. He believed strongly in looking out for one another and was known for his warmth and kindness, which he passed on to his family. The kettle was always on and the door was always open. Along with his beloved wife, Millie, their home was a place of comfort and steadiness for all who entered. Whether you dropped in for a chat or for something Richard fixed, you never left hungry.
Although Richard slowed down in recent years, it never stopped him from working on his good days. He enjoyed working on engines and spending time in the woods cutting firewood or trapping.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 57 years, Millie (née Barter), and their family: his only daughter, whom he always referred to as his baby, Nina Tourett-Retieffe (Phil Retieffe); sons Richard Jr. (Rebecca), Denis (Geniene), and Lance (Stephanie). He was a proud and loving Poppa to his cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, Cody, Jayla, and Cassidy, who were truly his world.
Also left to mourn are his brother Hector Tourett (Carolyn); sisters Ethel and Grace; sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, John (Jack) and Annie Francis Turrett (nee Young), as well as three brothers and five sisters.

Anne’s Chapel, Mainland on Monday 6-9pm.Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday December 30th at 11:00am with Father Joseph Loko officating Interment will follow at the Mainland Roman Catholic Cemetery.
