Selina Mary Critchley

December 9, 1941 - January 2, 2026

It is with saddened hearts that the family of the Late Selina Critchley announce her passing at the Rufus Guinchard Health Care Centre, Port Saunders, NL on Friday, January 2,  2026  at the age of 84  with her loving family by her side.

She leaves to mourn children:  Sabrina (Tyrone), Darlene, Eric (Nancy), George (Cavell), Brendon (Rodina), Katie (Darren); grandchildren:  Chelsea (Keith), Kyle (Haley), Kayla, George, Angela, Stephen (Courtney), Sara (Vinson), Kenny (Kayla), Adrian Sparkes; great - grandchildren:  Lincoln, Kai, furbaby Molly; brothers:  Martin (Josephine), Stanley; sisters: Madeline, Olive (Vince); sisters-in-law:  Genny Plowman, Hilda Plowman, Neta Critchley; large circle of nieces and nephews.

Selina was born in Port au Choix to Ebbert and Mary (nee Lowe) Plowman.  She was the second child of eight.  After having grown up in Port au Choix.  She moved to Port saunders, where she met her love, John Critchley.  They married on July 5th in 1958, settled down and started their family.  They had six beautiful children.

She was a caring and devoted mother, splitting her time between her family and work at the fish plant.  She was a hard worker but an even better cook.  There was no better cook than mom / nan.  The whole family will always remember Sunday dinner on the table every week. Mom didn't care to eat it herself, she just wanted to cook and bring family together.  

After raising her own children, she was just as excited to watch her nine grandkids and two great-grandchildren grow up.  They all were a source of pride for her.  Every corner of her home is filled with photos of her greatest joys.  But you could guarantee she wasn't in them.

During her last few years, she liked to stay at home and cuddle with her puppy Molly while sitting in her chair watching the harbour.  Selina loved her Sunday night bingo.  She never missed it.  

Selina will be missed by everyone that had the privilage to know her and to know her was to love her.

She is predeceased by husband John Critchley, son Kenneth Critchley, parents  Mary (Lowe)and Ebbert Plowman, parents-in-law William and Katherine (Patey) Critchley, brothers:  Edward, Nelson; sister Rita (Doug); brothers-in-law Edwin, James Cecil (Alice); sisters-in-law:  Elizabeth, Agnes and Lucy Critchley, Cecelia Plowman; sons-in-law Dion White, Rendell House; best friend and neighbour Beth Payne.

Family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Irfan, Dr.  Jeewani, Tracy House NP and all the staff at RGHC, special thanks to Rev. Marie for her ongoing support to the family.

Visitation:   Sunday, January 4, 2026 @ St.  John the Divine Anglican Church, Port  Saunders, NL from 2pm -4pm and 7pm-9pm.

Funeral Service:   Monday, January 5, 2026 @ St.  John the Divine Anglican Church, Port Saunders, NL @ 11am
