1931 – 2026

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Margaret White announce her passing on Saturday, January 3rd at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville at the age of 94 years.

Margaret was the beloved mother of Mavis Christie (Joel), Marie Boyd (Paul ) , Melvin White (Karen) and Norma Lucas (Kenny). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to her many grandchildren; Kyle Koller, Shane Boyd, Melissa White, Shanon Hutchison, Chad White, Morgan Nordstrom, Jenna Koller, Alison Muise and Lori White. She was a loving great grandmother to her 29 great -grandchildren and 7 great- great-grandchildren and a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

Margaret spent many years living in St. Teresa’s and St. George’s before later making her home at the Emile Benoit House, Stephenville Crossing.

Known for her generosity of spirit, Margaret cared deeply for children who were not her own and many lovingly referred to her as “MUM”. She welcomed everyone into her home and gave freely of what she had, especially to those in need. Coming from modest means she was resourceful and wise, always finding ways to make the best of what she had and to save for the future. Margaret loved to laugh and was known for her loving heart and quiet strength. She was a talented cook and knitter and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Above all she gave so much of herself to her family, especially her grandchildren with whom she shared countless hours and cherished moments.

She was predeceased by her mother Ada Young and her; siblings: Austin Young, Jim Sheppard, Pauline Tobin; brother – in – law, Theodore Tobin and her grandson, Lindsey White.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, January 8th 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 37 West Street Stephenville Crossing. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, January 9th at 2:00pm from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, St. George’s with Father Maurice O’Quinn officiating. The family guestbook may be signed at www.fillatre.ca.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her home care workers: Patsy Perrier and Bernice Young. A special thank you Joanann White, Jeannie Young, Yvonne King and Amanda Young who were devoted to Margaret and spent countless hours with her at the hospital during her final days. The family is grateful to all her friends at the Emile Benoit House especially her dear friend Venita King.
